Dr Raj Kumar’s Top-11 Songs

H.C. LAKSHMIKANTH writes: Forget K.L. Saigal, forget Geeta Dutt, forget Kishore Kumar. Dr Raj Kumar was Indian cinema's finest singing star. Ever. No question about it.

From romantic ditties to devotional numbers, Dr Raj proved over and over again that he could sing most competently, as well as Dr P.B. Srinivas who did the playback for him before he took over the mike himself.

From the hundreds of songs he sang for his own films and for that of others in recent times, it is difficult to come up with a Top-10 list. Which is why we have a Top-11.

1) Naanaduva nudiye Kannada nudi (Gandhada Gudi)

2) Yaare koogadali (Sampathige Savaal)

3) Naa ninna mareyalaare (from the eponymous film)

4) Priyatame karuneya toreya (Kavi Ratna Kalidasa)

5) Banigondu elle yellide (Premada Kanike)

6) Ade kannu, ade kannu, bete aaduthide (Ade Kannu)

7) Chinnada mallige hoove (Huliya Haalina Mevu)

8) Aadisi nodu, beelisi nodu (Kasturi Nivasa)

9) Raaga, anuraaga, shubha yoge seride  (Sanadi Appanna)

10) Huttidare Kannada naadinalli hutta beku (Aakasmika)

11) Baadihoda balli inda (Yeradu Kanasu)

Just to clarify “Adisi nodu beelisi nodu” from kasturi Nivasa and “Baadihoda balli inda” from Eradu Kanasu are not sung by Rajkumar. I would add “Aradisuve madanari” from Babruvahana and “Nadamaya e lokavella” from Jeevana chaitra.

  2. Ramesh HP Says:

BTW, Naavaduva Nudiye was sung by Dr PBS, not Dr Raj. I would put Jenina Holeyo Haalina Maleyo in that place. Music director, the famed pair Rajan-Nagendra, used 40+ instruments for that song from “Chelisuva Modagalu” (1984).

  3. Bharat Sagar Says:

    I would like to add:

    1) Ide Ragadalli - (shravana Banthu)
    2) Jeeva Hoovagide (Ni nanna gellalare)
    3) Tanuvu Manavu (Raja Nanna Raja)
    4) Cheluvaye ninna nodalu (Hosabelaku)

    the list goes on………….

    fantastic collection hip hip hurray

  8. Faldo Says:

While all the songs mentioned are great I would like to add “Cheluveya nota chenna ..” and “Chinna baalalli ee raatri baradu innendu.. ” from Shankar Guru just for the different moods the songs convey. I am also surprised that Naaniruvude Nimagaagi.. from Mayura is not on this list. I just assumed it was there.

  9. Anoop Says:

my favourite is naadamaya pl pl publish that song

  10. V Says:

    Are there Rajkumar songs beginning

    1) “Onde raaga, onde taala … (something, something ) meghashyama” or thereabouts? It’s a duet with Janaki.

    2) “Kelano hari …” (?)

and what are the links to them? Thanks.

Yes there is…but the lyrics are “Ide Raagadalli, Ide Talladalli, Radhegagi hadida neela megha shyama” from the movie Shravana banthu, the music was by M Ranga Rao.

I request you to kindly prepare and realse mp3 of all songs of rajkumar’s

  13. Hosa-Belaku Says:

I like sad songs. Kaneera Dhaare (Hosa Belaku); Ninagagi Ododi Bandhe (Sannadhi Appanna) and Anuraaga (Nee Nanna Gellalare). And I like his devotional songs –he infused bhakti without making it overtly religiously or Hinduistic!

  14. Sajith N Says:

Where can I find lyrics of these songs?

  18. dharshan Says:

to my opinion… i feel the order of priority in terms of musical degree of diificulties the songs should be in this order
    1. Manikya veena- Kavi ratna kalidasa (all words are sanskrit)
    2. Naadamaya- Jeevana chaitra (national award for singing)
    3. Thaayi naavu hado bhoomi thaayige- Hoovu Hannu
    4. Aaradisuve madanaari- Babruvahana
    5. yava kaviyu- Anuraga aralithu

Funny but the beginning, middle ( Number 8) and the end is built on a false premise- all 3 by the fabulous PBS. Krishna Mohan and Ramesh pointed this out in their comments but sadly the lies still exist!
