Today is World Music Day i.e. the day when we celebrate the genre called world music. World music, which was born on this day in 1982, is defined as music where influences from more than one culture intermingle. It is generally not mainstream and has some ethnic component. This number by Dr Raj Kumar may not strictly meet those parameters, but so what? It’s a fun third world number, and that too is one of the defining characteristics of world music.
if you come today, it’s too early..
if you come tomaarow, it’s too laite..
you pick the taaaime

Shows the versatility of Rajkumar, GK Venkatesh and Chi.Udayshanker. Rajkumar has sung this song in his distinct style. I feel Chi.Udayashanker has written the second stanza of the song with Kannada lyrics in mind. And remember the song was made in the ’70s.

I have some problem with the terms mainstream and ethnic as used by KP. Whatever the intent, the fact remains that people tend to see “mainstream” as “normal” and “ethic” as “other”. The words “vernacular” and “native” fall in that category. I am acutely aware of the usage of those terms here in the US, and greatly resent it.
I find it hard to believe that what is supposed to be mainstream in India is in fact dubbed ethnic by our media. Can’t we ever change our worldview to an Indo-centric one?
If KP intended to mean that the lyrics of the song was ethnic, I guess that’s fine :)

A list of all Rajkumar songs which has english in them:
My name is Raj: Haavina Hede
Love me or Hate me: Shankarguru
If you come today: Operation Diamond Racket
I love you: Nee nanna gellalare
Mary Mary Mary: Shravanabanthu
And remember this same Rajkumar even sang songs like Maanikyaveenam, Naadamaya, Aaradhisuve, Bombeyaatavayya, yaaru thiliyaru and many others which were pure classical based songs. What a genius he was. And what talent!

Dr raj is simply superb in everything, how can any body dare to comment on raj’s songs & singing skills. i heard youthtube.com is asking comments . pls stop this. it hurts many kannadiga fans
3 June 2008 at 3:47 pm
Wonderful song. Wonder how he would have swayed the crowds and would have been a Super star competing or upstaging Rajni or Kamal or Chiranjeevi had he been acting in this 21st Century.
Anyway even todays majority movies cannot be in any sense compared to Dr. Rajs movie. What pure entertainment value they had.
Pls watch Dr. Rajs Bengalooru Mail a black and white thriller classic which even today is enjoyable.
Hats off to this yesteryears sensation who swayed the crowds for over a decade.

Another full English song in a Kannada movie:
Movie – BESUGE
Singer – Vani Jayaram
Song – Life is a merry Melody, Love is a haunting Rhapsody..
Composer – Vijayabhaskar
In general we should not look for perfect English in these songs; after all, even the best of English speaking amongst us think in our native language. Many of the movie stars of yesteryears (and even now!) have a completely local accent of English. So what?! The films were made to entertain and when it was legends like Dr.Raj you would not argue too much – for, he was an actor sans pareil. Our film industry is dying without him and his presence.
21 September 2010 at 9:48 pm
This is a totally idiotic song. How could you even think this is a good song?
Yes, surely it is the best comedy song I have listened to. No doubt. It has close competition with Yaaruku Yaro Stepney (Which is a Tamil film, already has a Cult following).
22 September 2010 at 3:18 am
‘ Our film industry is dying without him and his presence.’ –Pancharangi makes 5 crores in 2 weeks and AKKA honours Puneet and Bellave Anna says this????
