The defeat of Sania Mirza in the first round of the 2006 Wimbledon tournament last night, on top of the second round crash out of the Australian Open, lobs a question that has been on most thinking people’s minds: has the on-court magic of the oomphy Hyderabad lass vanished for good? Admittedly, Sania who has been battling injury for some while, played with strappings on her right elbow as well both her ankles yesterday.
Still, with a 4th round appearance in the US Open being the furthest she has gone in a Grand Slam tournament in the last two years, the question is: have her opponents worked her out after her initial blitz? Is injury caused by poor fitness the cause, or is she too distracted by all her various commitments, too weighed down by expectations? She is still at a very respectable 38 on the WTA rankings, but at this rate will she ever win a Grand Slam title?

She has been bothered by injuries.. at the same time, I think she was given too many accolades too early not to mention all the advertising and branding… If I am not mistaken, Mahesh Bhupati’s company handles her marketing.
She never seems to progress beyond the second round.

Sania Mirza was never in the pool of coveted sportspersons. I think we need to discuss if anju george’s days are over.
Sania yava gidada toppalu? Its only once she reached the 4th round which fetched the media hype and hell lot of money. She will be remembered for more of her ads than tennis.

yes,her tennis career sure sucks,but she has quite an attitude ( as exemplified by those surreal Sprite ads) , has good looks and an equally brilliant media.
so ,yes , she can become a full time model and work for world peace like all our celebrities do and leave mundane things like winning grand slams to mere mortals.

It is true that,for sania it was never started at all.Every thing fell in place for her only b’cos of her looks and hyped media attention.
Even Indian govt also given Padma award to her leaving so many deserved behind.
Sania needs to put more efforts to be fit and consentrate on her tennis not on her T shirts writings and Ads

She is a hyped up girl. She entered the 4th round only once and the media hyped up as though she was another Steffi in the making. She is just like Ana Kournikova who flattered to deceive. She is more into advertising rather than concentrating on playing. Should not be too surprising if she starts acting in films. She does not have the determination, dedication as some of our sportswomen have.

This media hyped player was given Rs 5 lakh cash award, for nothing by Govt of Karnataka …..and No single bloddy politicians even bothered to Comment when our Own National Athlete in Swimming ( Nisha Millet ) announced her retirement at an age of 23 quoting lack of infracstructre and funds for training.
