churumuri records with deep regret the passing away of the rebel without a pause, K. Ramdas, in Mysore this morning. He was 65 years old. Ramdas, a former Kannada professor at the Maharaja’s College, was part of a famous triumvirate of P. Lankesh and Poornachandra Tejaswi, and his death comes barely three months after the demise of Tejaswi. Ramdas had been a chain smoker for 45 years and he had only recently been diagnosed with cancer.

K. Ramdas was a thorn in the side of many. He was brash, blunt, and sometimes blind.
The American newsman Tom Brokaw once said, “It’s easy to make a buck. It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.”
None can dispute that Ramdas made a difference. He inspired us to question the many assumptions inherent in religion, service, welfare and language.
That will be his legacy.
May his atman rest in peace.

I was shocked to hear about the death of Prof Ramdas when I was sitting in my office in Deccan Herald this evening. My first thought was how could a person like Ramdas die. Having moved out of Mysore three years back I am not in touch with many people. I was living in the same neighbourhood as Ramdas.
He did recognise me and in his own subtle way nurtured me. I always thought that I should spent more time with him when I was working for Star Of Mysore. But somehow it never happened.
And I thought that people like Ramdas will always be there one day when i return to Mysore. But that is not to be anymore.
Though we might not agree with his ideas and thoughts he was always bold in his stand and never flinched in expressing his thoughts.
I miss you Prof Ramdas.

We need to recognize the strength of Ramas as a person who can keep thoughts alive in action. In a democratic set up such people keep the system alive. Otherwise majority when it becomes part of a system can kill the base of democracy itself. he kept alive the idea of Lokaayatha as anti establishment ad base of democracy which teeaches to tolerate another point of view.
My humble tribute to him.
