Not a politician or a humanitarian relief worker!

Far lesser people than he have walked away with the Nobel Prize. Now the Nobel Committee has revealed why Mahatma Gandhi, despite being nominated five times, did not make the cut. Because, believe it or not, “he was neither a real politician nor a humanitarian relief worker.”

“I usually don’t comment on what the Nobel Committees or prize awarding institutions decide. But here, they themselves think he is the one missing. We missed a great Laureate and that’s Gandhi. It’s a big regret,” the executive director of the Nobel Foundation, Michael Sohlman, has told Sumon K. Chakrabarti of CNN-IBN.

“Mahatma Gandhi is the one we miss the most at the Nobel museum. I think that’s a big empty space where we should have had Mahatma Gandhi. I think it was a mistake. I think they could have made up for that little difference,” says the museum curator, Dr Anders Barany.

Thank God for this miss ! Imagine Mahatma being the company of worthies like Jimmy Cater, Kissinger, Y Rabin, De Klerk and Arafat…and who knows Bush, Blair may join this list

  2. Sanjay Guha Says:

I suppose in those days Nobel prize mostly went to distinguished white folk. If a Nelson Mandela could be awarded a peace prize, Gandhi deserved it more.

  3. H.R.Bapu Satyanarayana Says:

It is pure apartheid policy of Nobel Committee

  4. Mayura Says:

Nobel Peace prize does not make any sense any more as it was awarded to that terrorist leader Yasser Arafat..imagine Gandhi and Arafats names side by side in the Nobel Musuem..it is GROSS

    Mayura

  5. Doode Says:

Congress has forgotten to give Bharat Ratna to Mahatma Gandhi…….???????

  6. Peter Says:

It doesn’t matter if he’s terrorist or not, if did something good, he should get rewarded.

Nelson Mandela was a political figure, one of two requirements to be able to qualify for the Nobel prize. Gandhi was not classified as a political figure or humanitarian relief worker by the Nobel prize committee.

But it does not matter. because what Gandhi had achieved is way beyond what Nobel prize can offer to award him.

btw Bharat Ratna was created after Gandhi had died and it does not give posthumous awards. so yea.
