English liquor shops are catching them young

K.K. GANESH forwards a picture shot in front of an Angrezi sharaab ki dukaan in Rajasthan, and asks (tongue firmly in cheek): Do they have separate beers for adults and children in Jodhpur? Should liquor shops seek to attract children with such impunity? Or is it just a harmless spelling mistake of a presumably sozzled signboard painter? Is the shop advertising chilled beer with ‘l’ and ‘e’ missing?

how do you write chilled in indian languages?

chi+l+D = chilled. that is how he wrote it using english alfabets.
just because english is a messed up language when it comes to spellings, or just because we donot understand its wierd phonetics, does not mean that doode is wrong. he knows his phonetics extremely well.

Above it, we can find the Hindi version of it, that is-’tandi beer’ in Hindi. So, yes ofcourse obvisously it’s a spelling mistake and it should have been chilled beer as you have suggested. All printed materials either it is a newspaper or anything, even if it is meant for a small purpose, we see the proofs, check them and recheck them.., …but such boards are meant for a longer period…, it’s sad! we can see many such boards, of English and Kannada too.. which misguides or give wrong meanings…, Even in the present day fast, IT… world………, Yes it shows how keen we are in our persuit of excellence and in our attempt to achieve nearest perfection!

    It’s everywhere

Outside, a different, yet very familiar North Indian environment, culture and people. All the time, my ears had a strangely pleasant feeling of listening to pure Bhojpuri dialect. The north indian food, be it Delhi, Kanpur or Lucknow, was fantastic ! On my way to Lucknow, I spotted the funny and famous “Child” Beer board as well. A sight that caught the attention of even a teetotaller like me. Spotted an elephant walking across the road right next to the New Delhi railway station. Was kind of amused to see the tiny little Lucknow Amausi Airport.

Search “CHild Beer” in Google images… It’ll show the boards across Jodhpur, Kanpur and Jumrithalaiah.

A board which read ‘ Snake Juice Bar ‘ was hanging outside a juice shop on Queens Road (opposite PTI office) in Bangalore between 1997-2000!
