Simian row sparked by slip of the mother tongue?

Did Harbhajan Singh really call Andrew Symonds a “monkey”?

Or is this all a horrible communication gap caused, a) by the thick mop of hair around Roy’s ears, b) by the different languages spoken by the two cricketers?

E.R. RAMACHANDRAN writes that a contributor on Orkut has this smart interpretation of the raging Simian row:

“Bhajji would have most probably yelled ‘Maa ki‘, which Symonds mistakenly heard as ‘Monkey’!”

Problem solved? End of story?

Kewl: But for our churumuri readers, whole scene in detail………

The conversation between Bhajji and Symonds:

Symonds comes towards bhajji when he was batting.
Symonds: “Hey bhajji, u know how to play cricket?”
    Bhajji : “just shut-up”
Symonds “anybody from panjab knows how to play this game”
    Bhajji : “hey u just shut-up, teri maan(mon) kii(key)…
Symonds : “wot u say, monkey, u racially abusing me, will make a complaint”
Bhajji : “dont make false allegations, even if i really have to say anyone a monkey, i would have said it to bucknor, nowdays hez doin umpiring like a monkey

More than seeing the word “Monkey” as a racial slur the Australian Board should coin a word for the visiting teams to use against their players (particularly Symonds) whose habituated antics on the field are similar to that of a Simian (irritating & annoying).
The question is not whether the word Monkey was used as a racial slur, but the annoying tactics of the cricketing bullies (over years) that cannot be called by any other name.

Imagine how the whole losing Indian team and ex-cricketers would be up in arms if another team had used the phrase ‘you motherfucker’ or ‘SOB’…

Maybe our players to stick to abuses mothers and passing racist comments in hindi.
