No worries about the readership. I guess we do have a lot of folks who have this trepidation about language, medium of instruction, the future of kannada. It touches many realms emotional, social & professional. We have seen that it stikes a chord with most and did evoke a lot of responses. Better to consolidate and have it a greater audience than not to try at all.

Consolidating our ideas on teaching in and about Kannada would be a splendid thing. Who will be our audience?

Such intellectual, inward looking, exercises in futility as Sugata’s are the reason why the Naaraayana Gowdas are taking over the Kannada mindset. Even Chandrasekhara Patil, a reputed mind person, has become their fellow traveler.

Those of us who use this forum as a place to shed our tears about Kannadigas and Kannada are no exception. Rats in a maze.

I wonder who is to blame? Probably to some extent Settar himself, more media (kannada and english) and then maybe ourselves.

But, yes, should be interesting to attend.

Prof. Settar is a respected writer in Kannada and authored several books – in Kannada incl Sangam Tamilgam, 300 page treatsie on Kaviraja Marga. He was a resident of Dharwad for decades.

Infact, Settar is credited with co-authoring a paper deals that helps in automatic generation of indexto Kannada documents.

Its really sad that recognition or even awareness about eminent Kannada writers such as Prof Settar is near zilch.

The invitation is in English, the function does not seem to have even one Kannada writer, though there is a Tamil writer invited. One gets the impression that the book is intended for ‘phoren’ readers.
