The ministerial ambitions of H.S. Shankaralinge Gowda, the four-time BJP MLA from the Chamaraja assembly constituency in Mysore, have once again been cruelly thwarted.
Gowda vents his feelings in today’s Star of Mysore:
“The leaders of the party have favoured some MLAs, who were elected for the first time due to their personal influence on the powers-that-be….
“During his visit to Chamundi Hills on 29 May, B.S. Yediyurappa invited me to his residence the next day. When I called on him on the morning on May 30, my footwear went missing. Before my return from the store after purchasing a pair of shoes, I missed out on becoming a Minister.
“The time was 12.26 pm. Yediyurappa was proceeding to the Vidhana Soudha for taking part in the oath-taking ceremony. He told me that I was not being made a Minister. When I sought to know why I was not getting a berth in the Cabinet, he just said, let us talk about it later.“

Bellary Mining owners were more favourite to Yeddi, rather than poor shankarlinge gowda.
One day the same Mining owners will thrash yeddi to dust. At that time Yeddi will realise his mistakes.
But by then, it will be toooo late…..

Carry a spare of chappals with you, Sankrappa, and possibly a mind unbesotted by dreams of money bags.
2 June 2008 at 9:29 pm
If everybody wants to become a minister, how can it be possible? Manushyanige aase irabeku. There is a saying kaalalabdhi. Yes , he will get it. If you want to serve people do it. If you have doneit people will definitely elect you again and again, otherwise they will throw you into the dustbin. Best of luck, Shankaralinge Gowda, don’t get disheartened.

rofl!!
where was his chappal stolen, at the beTTa? rofl!!
hyangu car iruthalla bargaalal hogbaarde?
2 June 2008 at 10:05 pm
We don’t want any Kannadiga mysore MLAs for our cabinet , our first preference is to “Bellary”. where there is iron ore!!!, These telugu speaking Reddy’s own the iron ore mines here and they pay tax to me personally!
Who cares for you and your Mysore people!!!
2 June 2008 at 11:11 pm
This is funny ! ROFL . Hope his lost chappal did not really rob him of his ministry and it’s just an excuse. Chappal or no chappal he should have shown up ; maybe borrow one from one of his chamchas…?
If it’s the actual reason it’s bad and worse if it isn’t — this is the best he could come up with ?

of all those who have missed the bus, this one really deserves it for he has the decency and maturity of airing his views democratically rather than instigating the ‘followers’ to torch buses and block roads like what Shettar, Narayanaswamy and others are doing. as someone said be patient Mr Gowda, you will make it.
3 June 2008 at 12:03 am
if shobha can why cant shankar!!
3 June 2008 at 12:14 am

The BJP is now more or less a sad face of the once noble and principle led party. It is today driven by money power, corrupt politicians and deal makers. In Karnataka the party has the crooked trio of Ananthkumar, Sadannanda Gowda and an old Yedi as the front face while it is actually controlled by black money led by the Bellary Reddy brothers who now have their own choppers but were riding two wheelers just a decade ago.
Like every other successful politician, Shankaralinge Gowda is also known for being corrupt. He has already made a fortune in politics with huge investments into real estate, hotels, bars and shopping complexes in India and abroad. But he has also repeatedly won the elections & is popular too. The denial of a key ministry post to him, Yogish Bhat, Shettar and others is another instance of how the old mysore, dakshina kannada, north karnataka, coorg and and other regions has been repeatedly ignored by the power hungry representatives of the poor people.

she is a first time mla who conspired against shakuntala shetty to become the prominient women mla and just won by 1000 votes….
shankar is a 4 time winner and the bjp needs to build a base in mysore region…u want a better reason then that..?
shobha is yeddy’s keep ..everyone knows that
3 June 2008 at 3:31 am
It is sad to see the ministers and their credentials in the present BJP ministry….It shows BJP is not better than Congress or JDS ….Why the mining lobby has given too much importance?
3 June 2008 at 7:48 am
I lost all my sympathy for this guy when he was on the phone with TV 9 studio when swearing in ceremony was still going on!
He truly sounded like he is desperate for ministership and his thoughts were all over the place – like a maniac.
In whole Mysore district I believe BJP won only two seats. Why should Yeddy even bother giving minister giri to MLAs from Mysore? Let Shankar Gowda build the party base and demand minister giri.
3 June 2008 at 11:38 am
As noted writer CHAMPA said its not YEDDY govt which has come to power in Karnataka, its REDDY govt. We are going to see clash between CHEDDY’s(RSS) and REDDY’s(mining lords). Karnataka politics has become a business now n these REDDY’s have invested hundreds of crores on BJP and now its time to recover that amount. YEDDY is only CM for namsake and has fullfilled his personal ambitions of becoming a CM and make Shobha a minister. In Mysore district BJP has life only in Krishnaraja which is city as it is dominated by Brahmin and Lingayat community. In Chamaraja its more Shankaralinge Gowda than its BJP as he very close with people of its constituency and if any other candidate was contesting other than Shankaralinge Gowda BJP would have lost that seat.

Maybe this was a conspiracy by the Ananthkumar faction aadre Shoba manas madidre yella saadya.ROFL.
3 June 2008 at 11:59 am
Yeddi’s yielded to Reddy brothers. 4 cabinet seats to Bellary. Only God knows how/whether Yedi complete 5 years term.
3 June 2008 at 12:14 pm
The latest rumours making rounds…………
Jagadish shettar to become CM after loksabha election with the support of JDS…….
Yeddi along with his 25 mla’s may come out of BJP to form other party….
3 June 2008 at 1:45 pm
I bet that gaNi dhaNis will be at Congress’ doorstep within this or next term!
What about the rumour that yeddyurappa wants to make GTD a minister, after getting him through the MLC elections!?
What about Reddy and Co. supposedly casting their evil eye on Chamarajanagar?
So would the thermal power plant be built at Mysore/Ch’nagar for the mining industry in Ch’nagar?
Oh Gawd! If that really happens then what about forests around ch’nagar!? :O
3 June 2008 at 1:55 pm
baradu kodtini,,
BJP will be more corrupt than all previous rules KA has ever seen.
3 June 2008 at 1:58 pm
It’s just a progressive scale- each government will be more corrupt than its predecessor and that is only a reflection of corruption of Society- isnt this what that brave romantic Prof Nandy was trying to say!

This question shows how we view the qualities needed to be a minister. Minsiter is like a CEO who should be able to manage the resources of the institution under his control for the maximum benefit of the state. It is not a reward given to the successful candidate to exploit for the exclusive beneift of the candidate or for his party.
It looks as though minsiterhsip is given for the limited purpose of making money. Viewed in this way which is obviously not the correct way, even our dear Shankarlinge Gowda is as eligible as any one. But if we take the moral high ground, then it is not clear what qualities of his qualify him to manage any portfolio. It is a crying shame, we do not analyse the candidates from any of the managerial quality requirements, but from caste, regional and religious point of view. Is it the case that only a muslim candidate will help muslims or a lingayat will help only lingaayats? What a shame that we still continue to think in such narrow ways while crticize them all the time.
3 June 2008 at 11:03 pm
Mysore Manja ……..
Ok you justified why Mysore ministers should not get a place in cabinet.
These BJP people came to a peaceful Quiet city chikmagalure and convertd it to Ayodhya of south.
BJP won 4 seats and Congress 1
MLAs from chikmagalure for cabinet; NIL
I would love to hear your Justification. Why nobody from chikmagalure?
4 June 2008 at 11:17 am
@ Mr. Shenoy,
Amen to what you have so rightly said. Unfortunately, everything sans merit is a deciding factor in our politics — lunacy at work..
4 June 2008 at 1:42 pm
Its looks like every one hate reddy brothers here.
According to me they are a ray of light compared to devegowda and his sons.
reddy can bring rama rajya and every one in bellaryi ncluding rich and poor will soon overcome poverty and kick ass of their hassan counter parts.
Jai Reddy brothers………..

5 June 2008 at 1:44 pm
Hello Andhra Reddy
True to the Karnataka tradition, it should be.
Jai Reddiyavarige.
Others How many of you know about the history of Karanataka?
Do you know why states created on the basis of language?
How many of you, who bloggers keep writing for the heck writing, speak Kannada in public with pride?
Do you read news papers?
What information do you have on Reddy brothers in question.?
Is in’t a media hype “Reddy brothers issue”?
How many of you know that they are NOT MIGRANTS and very much born and bred in Karnataka?
Bellary voters are not fools!!.
Come to Bengaluuru, I will show people of upper classes/ upper middle classes who don’t speak Kannada in public. It is these people who throw cold water on people who come new to the city and want to learn Kannada.
I will tell you one incident. There was this Tamilian family moved from New Delhi to Bengaluuru to settle down after their retirement. They asked to me introduce me a teacher to teach them Kannada. They were willing to learn Kannada. After few years, I saw them happily speaking in Tamil.!! I asked them ” Did you pick up Kannada”. “Oh, We can manage with Tamil or English in this area.” was the answer I got.
It is very true with kannada females in Bengaluuru. They think it is a shame to speak Kannada.
Now a days there is this fashion of speaking Hindi saying “It is a National Language”. Speaking Kannada in public is anti-national?
Some of you guys should check up Indian Constitution and see what it says. It says “Hindi is one of the national languages”
I know some well educated Kannada people have “problems” while speaking Kannada. They start stuttering as it is difficult for them to pronounce Kannada words. Ayyo paapa!.
What a pretence!!
I hope this Churumuri is a Website for Kannada/ Karanataka cause.
