After historian S R Rao and poet G S Shivarudrappa, Yeddyurappa is the third person to get an honorary doctorate from Shikaripura!
May Huchchooraya Swamy of Shikaripura bless him!

What a joke. And, what a joker.

Probably the future historians will refer to our times as as the ‘doctorate era’, with every ‘tom, dick and harry’ striving to prefix a ‘dr.’ to their names. If it cannot be an allopathic ‘doctor’ it could be a an ayurvedic, homeopathic, naturopathic, yunani, or anything could be an alibi for their self styled ‘dr’. Then you have the mysterious foreign universities dishing out ‘dr’ for monetary (read dollar) considerations. If these are not enough, we have the ‘asali’ doctorates from our well known ‘established’ universities who cannot even comprehend or explain their own dissertations!!
Wonder how our CM has fallen into this trap.
True greatness is when ‘Yediyurappa’ without the ‘B.S.’ and ‘dr’ means the one and only Yediyurappa, i.e our present CM

Who are the people that helped wrap up this deal? How did SVW come to know about Yed and his service to humanity?

Whether he merits it or not, Yeddy looks quite smart in these scholarly robes! I remember dirty Devegowda looking like a leading witchdoctor in a Naga dress. I request the editor of Churmuri to publish Gowda’s Naga dress picture. Thanks!

Dodda buddi is right! Dr.Yediyurappa looks resplendant in the academic garb! Let us not pull him down and ruin his cheer.
14 December 2008 at 6:21 pm
DB that was hilarious… Im wondering if Godman Somayaji will suggest any further name changes ‘Dr Yeddyurappa’ may not bode good afterall!
14 December 2008 at 8:40 pm
Yappa TS,
Neevu heLidakke nan kabooli ade. But I am still bothered by the issue, bothered enough to wish to discover what influential Kannada mahatma in Michigan recommended Yed for an honorary doctorate to the president of Saginaw Valley U, who obviously took it to the board of trustees. Why would the president and the trustees go along with the idea? How would the university benefit from this unless there is some moola involved? The situation tells us something about fourth tier universities in the U. S. and their abysmal darkness.
Didn’t a former mayor of Bengaluru and a Kannada actor also receive doctoral diplomas from bogus phoren universities?
Now if SMK were tobe given a Doctor of Humane Letters diploma by Southern Methodist U, of which he is an alumn, I can understand the logic although I would think Southern cheapened itself by doing so.
Going back to what I said in my earlier post, I think all Kannadigas should hang their heads in shame when a “Jagadguru” stoops to calling himself Dr. So-and-so. I don’t think self-respecting people like Shivarama Karantha ever fell into this trap of self-deceit. Ee bhanagadi namma moorkha mandige thiliyoodilla nodri.
While on the topic, when conferring an honorary doctorate (on an undeserving soul in many cases), why does somebody on the dais have to say that the university is honoring itself by performing this sordid action?
What you say about the Protestant work ethic is true. When we got our sense of a university–in the usual muddled way in which we mimic any insitution in in the U. K.–we did not learn protocols that govern the issuance of any degree. Our Westminster model of government is not the only risible thing about us. We still don’t know when Doctor of Humane Letters, Doctor of Laws, or Doctor of Literature is appropriate. Why not confer a homespun title?
That reminds me. Literate Kannadigas know who among our writers has been awarded a JnanapeeTha (peetha) largesse. Then why do our newspapers ineviably tag those worthies with “Jnanapeetha Prashasthi Puraskrutha” or some such imbecilic phrase? Why don’t we know the elementary difference between a Knight and a JP? C. V. Raman, Vishwesharaya, Mirza Ismail all sported their “Sir” legitimately, although it was a sign of subservience, the practice unfortunately mimicked in B. M. Shri’s “Rajasevaasaktha,” etc.
Incidentally, how many of our Ph.D’s know that in the U. K. and the U. S. earned doctorate holders at reputable institutions prefer the title “Mr” or “Professor” to “doctor?” Irreverent students are known to say “Doc.”
Oh, yes. Kissinger was always referred to as “Dr.” in public life. But who cares to imitate a bloodthirsty imperialist, especially when we are among the worst victims of imperialism in the world?
I dread having to hear or see “Dr. Yediyurappa” everywhere now. There must be tens of dishonest groups dying to honor him with their “sanmaana.” Is there no end to our ignorant villainy?
14 December 2008 at 8:52 pm
Thank you, Atheist! That is a super photo of Dirty Devegowda! May be he had just concluded a ‘Naga vasthavya’ AKA living among snakes:)
14 December 2008 at 9:04 pm
Of the two quacks, I’d prefer Dr. Mirza to treat me in an emergency. I’d be repulsed by the very touch of Dr Yed!
Hey, DB, how’s it going! Long time… all well?
14 December 2008 at 9:26 pm
Someone should suggest to this ‘Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan’ to send their doctorates in ‘bulk’.
SVSU can save on dollar expenses unless,of course, these recipients or their ‘well wishers’ are bearing those expenses too. I hear the name of some double Madaiah in this connection..True or false??

If we accept that BSY is the CM of KA, then it is great that our CM has been honored with a doctorate. Now, let’s give a chance for him to be worthy of this accomplishment.

“Once a thriving lumber town and manufacturing centre, Saginaw (popularion 56,263) in recent years has suffered from population decline, job losses, and increased crime rates. ”
– Surprised there is no mention of a decline in the intellect of univ management !
– Do not know about how regal Yeddi looks in the garb. You gotta give it to the moron for having the gall to go up there(despite his bird brain that in no way justifies a PhD), accepting the award and smiling around !
Shame on the stupid Univ and the moron of a CM
15 December 2008 at 6:39 am
Ashley!
I am alright thank you. Looks like you have kept open the possibility of WitchDoctor Devegowda treating you if Dr. Mirza is unavailable?:)
15 December 2008 at 8:57 am
I think some business dealings must have got him a PhD
@Prajwal
PhD u likely to earn for your work is definitely different from what Mr. Yediyurappa has earned. Dont compare u r degree rself with such fellows degrees.
I am so shocked to hear Sania Mirza has got a PhD??!!

What abt Churumuri? Its behaving as naive Briton (mentally colonized) as its unable to even recognize Rani Channamma whose statue was dedicated at this function.

Dear Dr. Yediyyurappa,
What a remarkable acheivment. Doctor you have made all the Kannadigas proud and we are ecstatic to have you as our leader. Your selfless service of forty years has finally been recognized by American university. You look so regal in your dress. Your majesty and poise reminds us of our most loved erstwhile king Sri Ranadheera Kanteerava Narasaraja Wodeyar Bahadur.
Behind every successful man there is a woman and every Kannadiga knows deep within their hearts who that woman is. Kannadigas congragulate Shobakka for inspiring our chief. We also appreciate the Bortherly support Ramanna Ramachandre Gowda has provided for your singular acheivement. When your good self, Shobakka and Ramanna are together we are reminded of Lord Sri Ramachandra, Mata Sitadevi and Bratha Laxmana. If our culture minister Mukyamantri Chandru is also included we have our most loved mischevious Hanumantha as well. We all know who the Rakshasa Ravana and his son Meghanada are. YOu have indeed slain them. The picture is complete.
Your support to the rishis and Jagadgurus of Karnataka is exemplary. Everyday we see you in the august company of great souls like Jagadguru Shivaratrishwara, Balagangadhara, Pejawara, Murugarajendra, Sri Sri Ravishankar, Ganapthi Sachidananda, Bhagwan Satya Sai Baba, Rajarishi Somayaji and many many other luminous souls. Who says this is dark eon of Kali yuga. We see light all around in your esteemed leadership. THis is indeed Ram Rajya.
Why should only the people of Karnataka have this privelege of Ram Rajya. Indeed Doctor you belong to the whole of India. Is it not the aim of the Sangh Parivar to turn india into a Ram Rajya. Can a eighty one year old Advani provide us with Ram Rajya. No, he can at the most provide Dasharatha Rajya. It is only you who should be the prime minister of India in 2009 an usher in the Ram Rajya. Six crore Kannadigas are longing to see you in Delhi. We are wondering what Rajarishi Somayaji has predicted regarding your tara bala. If Rajarishi can get you till the CM chair he can get you the PM chair as well.
Once again congragulations to our Odeya
Bhakta Shiromani

Dr. Mahendra S Kanthi got him doctorate. His father S R Kanthi was K’taka CM for 3 months in 1962. Dr. M S Kanthi used to teach international economics at the SVSU.
Its president Dr. Eric R Gilbertson got doctorate from Mysore University in 1992/93. The then VC Madaiah had some connection with him.
It is now pay back time.
15 December 2008 at 5:36 pm
Vinay, this may help our upcoming politicians.

Nikhil Gowda will be sent there and he will be a phoren return witchcraft specialist and politician. :D
15 December 2008 at 5:43 pm
Thanks, Jeevarathna and Coffee Addict.
My question has been answered to my satisfaction.
When will Shri Kanthi get his honorary doctorate from Karnataka University, or, better still, become its Vice-Chancellor?
During the Haradanahalli clan’s misrule, I had wished that I were a vokkaliga. Now I want to be a Lingaayath. Who is the most influential Lingaayath Swamy from whom I can receive my lingadeekshe? I do know that later on I will have to become a Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, or whatever it takes.
15 December 2008 at 10:39 pm
MSK is eminently qualified to become a VC in Karnataka.
Basic Requirement: You should belong to Lingayat / Gowda/ Muslim or SC .
The moment MS changes his status to Citizen of India, he will get it post haste !
16 December 2008 at 11:16 am
@Jeevaratna,
Dr. M S Kanthi still holds his Indian Passport. He is a member of K’taka Finance Commission from Lingayath quota. Former Retired officer T Thimme Gowda is from Vokkaliga quota. Dr. MSK has all academic qualifications to become VC of any university in India. He worked with UN, World Bank, IMF, ADB and also with President Jimmy Carter.
16 December 2008 at 7:51 pm
How nice to have an influential politician for a father, a Lingaayath especially.
29 December 2008 at 8:57 am
Just now read Bhaktha Shiromani’s splendid tongue-in-cheek paean to Yed. What a well-crafted send up.
