Another example of commodification of women

Real reasons we are using this picture: Because it is a Saturday. Because we like movies. Because we like good-looking women. Because, well, her name is Ramya, and she is indeed ravishing.

Intellectual reasons for using this picture: Because there is something to be mourned about the disappearance of home-grown actresses in our cinema, be it Kannada, Tamil or Telugu. Because “brands” should not lose faith in the perceived ability of brand ambassadors to attract eyeballs.

  2. Quizman Says:

Aside news, now you can publish, view Churumuri with a Kannada firefox.

  3. smart Says:

hot pic. no comments about the rest of the post

  4. Prashant Krishnamurthy Says:

How did the cheap, brain-dead lechers at churumuri leave out the “intellectual reason” that it is also International Women’s Day for this gross and tasteless commodification of a Vontikoppal beauty?

  5. nagarajarao@tarikere Says:

When it comes to jewellery, all women are same. They do whatever and put all their savings to get the jewellery. No matter whether they are stars or otherwise. Ramya would have imagined how she woudl look if she wears all the jewellery displayed in the showcase at her back.

  6. dharma Says:

When some one was asked to name his/her favourite women
    Congress man said Sonia
Man on the street said Ramya
    A college student said Iswarya
No body thought of his wife or mother,
When a small baby was asked it said AMMA
How strange, we see women not in the form of mother or wife as it was in our Indian culture, but as a power or sex symbol. Jai hooooooooooooo International!

  7. bomma Says:

Will the Ram sene belt Ramya for posing for this picture?

Will RSS supporters post long posts on this forum supporting that?

  8. dwarkanathgv Says:

this commodification stems from the classical studies on ‘consumer behaviour’. its not uncommon to link a particular product/brand to a particular iconic person. the logic involved is , look at the icon , remember the product/brand. thats why celebreties like sports persons , film stars are roped in for advertisements. whats to be indeed noted is , the iconic person should and must have the goodwill of public at large. consequently , due to this reason only winners are associated with the advt. can some one think of an advt featuring grand slam winner of thirty years back or heroine of rajkapoor’s first movie :)

    Prashant Krishnamurthy,

  11. Janasamanya Says:

No doubt, she is beautiful. A thing of beauty, a joy forever and all that… okay. But what do you want to say, Nangoo artha aglilla…..

  12. ultraswamy Says:

  13. Andy Says:

Nice post ! Quite eye pleasing ):

  14. Palahalli Says:

Does maestro’ bomma not understand basics of “feminism”?

That “commoditization” of women is the point of rupture in their ideology?

One bunch sees it as “right”, the other sees it as “exploitation”.

bomma, btw, next time you want to take pot shots at individual commenters, retain the decency of naming them.

  15. Sandesh Says:

    Palahalli
No no… say “yes” to everything what bomma says… Thats the best way to respond to him!

  16. Gowda Boy Says:

Diamonds are the girls best friend

    – From Gentlemen Prefer Blonds Starring Marlyn Monroe. Lyrics by Jule Styne

The French are glad to die for love.
    They delight in fighting duels.
But I prefer a man who lives
    And gives expensive jewels.
    A kiss on the hand
    May be quite continental,
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

    A kiss may be grand
But it won’t pay the rental
    On your humble flat
Or help you at the automat.

    Men grow cold
    As girls grow old,
And we all lose our charms in the end.

    But square-cut or pear-shaped,
These rocks don’t loose their shape.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

    Tiffany’s!
    Cartier!
    Black Starr!
    Frost Gorham!
    Talk to me Harry Winston.
    Tell me all about it!

    There may come a time
When a lass needs a lawyer,
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

    There may come a time
    When a hard-boiled employer
    Thinks you’re awful nice,
But get that ice or else no dice.

    He’s your guy
    When stocks are high,
But beware when they start to descend.

    It’s then that those louses
    Go back to their spouses.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

    I’ve heard of affairs
    That are strictly platonic,
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

    And I think affairs
    That you must keep liaisonic
    Are better bets
If little pets get big baguettes.

    Time rolls on,
    And youth is gone,
And you can’t straighten up when you bend.

    But stiff back
    Or stiff knees,
    You stand straight at Tiffany’s.

    Diamonds! Diamonds!
    I don’t mean rhinestones!
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

  18. citygurl Says:

Nice pic. Though she could have been better dressed for the jewellery she wears in the pic.

  19. sathya Says:

It is meanngless to comment on it. Do you expect tge actor Ganesh to come as a model! Those who have money and desiorous of purchasing gold may lok at it, others just ignre it. HOw many people will be standing before the jewellwry shops? Daily life should go on and the ordinary man always bothers about it. It is immaterial for him whether it is Ramya or Soumya? How many people can recognize and say that she ie Ramya? Leave her alone.

  20. bomma Says:

Yes the RSS is here :) And accusing others of what they are usually guilty of.

Now the question is – will Ram Sene attack Ramya for posing for this photo. I guess not, they are probably not so stupid.

  21. Vitlan Potli Says:

eh! what is that she is wearing? doesnt look like anything in the background, the necklace around her next looks more like a string of ball bearings to me and why is her hair plastered to her headdu. all in all not that good a picture guruve! could have been better.

  22. babuds Says:

Agreed! we should not commodify women! Does Churumuri wants to put a Burkha around our women, like they do in SWAT (Pakistan).

As they have male dancers (women are barred from dancing) in Afghanistan, shall we ask sharukh Khan or MS Dhoni to pose in these ads meant to sell Jewellery to women? Have a life.

  23. Bangalore raja Says:

  24. My3 Says:

Jewellery is being sold to other women. Heck it if looks good on her it may atleast look OK on the rest of us ;-), eh? And I surely do NOT want too see Ganesha wearing jewellery and posing :-D

  25. BangaloreGuy Says:

Boohoo, oh we’ve a good-looking woman on our website. Please *VISIT* us, give us a pat on the back for “decrying commodification of women”. But please do visit.

*Stop* being so full of BS, will ya? Grow up, you guys are *old enough*!
