GAUTAMADITYA SRIDHARA writes from Bangalore: In October last year, churumuri.com published a story by MiD-DaY Bangalore editor S.R. Ramakrishna titled ‘By-two badam haal for the lambu leggie, please‘.
The article had a picture of the famous ‘Iyengars Bakery’ in 4th Block, Jayanagar although the bakery had been shut for a couple of years after the owners had decided to call it quits.
I met the gentleman who owned the bakery a couple of days ago and he explained to me that there was overwhelming “public demand” that the bakery be reopened and requests that “the owners not be responsible for erasing an integral part of old Jayanagar”.
Owing to public demand, I am happy to report that Iyengar’s Bakery reopened last Friday, 10 July 2009, to welcome many excited patrons including me.

Thank God. It was a bit difficult to explain to NRI relatives, especially the daughter in law, that they could not have the khara bun and the benne biscuit. Thanks for the information. Is the Bakery in the same old place or has moved?

Good to hear that Induramesh’s NRI relatives will not go starved :).
We shouldn’t mind living in ‘museums’.

This is very good news indeed.
It is a big relief to see a local eating place coming back where the only growth seems to be in American ‘junk’ food (and joints) backed by their subsidized industrial processes which profit their owners sitting abroad and screwing everyone else in the long run.
The junk food culture of mass manufactured, industrially created sweetened sodas, chips, pizzas, burgers which take artificial and unhealthy foods to a new level while directly and indirectly harming local farmers, eaters health, the environment and the economy should be fought and defeated.
What better way than supporting a great local place like Iyengar’s bakery!
