There is little to be said about Shah Rukh Khan‘s travails with immigrations officials in the United States when newspaper headlines read like a contest for ad lines for his next film: “Khan holds up Shah Rukh in US” (The Times of India) and “Because My Name is Khan” (The Indian Express).
And there is even less to be said when you recall former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam‘s dignified silence when Continental Airlines frisked him while VVIPs all around him were breaking into cold sweat, and contrast it with the breastbeating that has erupted nationwide.
Blogger “Rakesh Mathias” however makes a pertinent observation on the media’s response to the troubles of “King” Khan and a similar incident involving a democratically elected leader, Gujarat chief minister Narendrabhai Damodardas Modi:
“When Modi was denied the US visa, India media celebrated the incident and hailed USA as a world saviour. But the same media is now making a hue and cry about the Shah Rukh Khan incident in Newark Airport where he was questioned by immigration officials for more than 2 hours.
“When a democratically elected leader like Narendra Modi was denied visa, even the then central government led by the Congress filed a diplomatic protest. But Indian media celebrated the incident. Now when a Bollywood showman was interrogated for reasons we don’t know yet but most likely related to whether Shah Rukh had a proper visa or such paperwork, the whole Indian media is creating a ruckus saying India has been insulted by USA as if interrogation by some lowly immigration clerk is threat to Indian sovereignty.”

Mr Khan Please stop being a embarrassment to fellow indians and please note that rules are apllied equally in US even for self annoited VIP’s and Kings and commoners. Stop calling politicians at the drop of a hat and follow rules. it’s sad in all this our Independence day celebrations did not find a spot on Ny times but your ruckus did……

What is with you journalist types and double quotes!?
Even in talk shows people do act like Praying Mantises muttering quote unquote every now and then.
What are you hinting at? That the blogger’s name may not be real?
What should the bloggers do? License Real Name™ from Amazon?
Or that, he’s wrote favourably about Narendra Damodardas Modi in spite of allegedly being a Christian?
Just when people stopped laughing thinking how a megalomaniac like Shahrukh would have fitted in a well made movie like Khuda Kay Liye, we have his camp putting up their (presumably) glossier take with My Name is Khan.
Seeing the kind of movies he and his friends are making these days(barring a few exceptions), it looks like they would need every bit of publicity that they can get.

Indian media has a forked pen – like the what the Red Indians said about the double-speak of the White Man – which deals differently with different people. Consistency is elusive. So what is good for the Modis is not good for the Khans; if you question this double standards, then you are a communal person!

Hope our VIPs and VVVIPs will realize that they are just like everybody else in the eyes of the rest of the world, even if they are demigods among their own countrymen.
Security check is for everybody else’s security.
If they are feeling humiliated, better remain in Mumbai or Delhi only where they can be above everything including the law of the land!!!

Why should be go for breast beating, if officials in America perform their legitimate duty, while their counterparts in India are lax in doing so?
Nothing prevents the Indian authorities in subjecting everybody leaving India for abroad for the same kind of treatment of going through rigorous checking.
The law should be equal to everybody. There can be nono exceptions. Or in the alternative, our worthy leaders should volunteer to go through checking procedure at the airports
Are we hurt that while American officials do thier duties, we dont do in India?

Well I don’t know about the Indian media but I am celebrating SRK’s ‘detention’ for two hours! And the moron has been quick to grab headlines for all the wrong reasons. This latest incident has confirmed by belief in the US Secuirty System.

This stammering mediocre hero has the audacity to say – Do i look like a terrorist ? It is like Abu Salem asking with a dead pan- do i look like a Bollywood Hero ? Can we forget the great Gandhian Sanjay Dutt hoarding AK-47’S and fighting the TADA cases? Mafia link with Bollywood is an open secret. Forget about Modi, most of us will not get even Tourist VISA to many of these places. We as a nation seems to make demigods out of ordinary actors and put them on pedestals and deify them. They are routinely honored with Padma Awards and even Bharat ratna. Now the universities have joined bandwagon. It is time we introspect and excersie much needed restraint.

In any case Shahrukh Khan is anything but a hunk and this steroid induced bulk picture has been on cyberspace from ages.

This s.khan guy is way too astute he knows how the secular media will react. For him acting is a 24×7 thingie; the bloke is always looking out for opportunities to feed his ego-maniacal desire to be talked about any which way. me thinks he has taken the Oscar Wilde quote tad too seriously.Pukkat may headline publicity! is what he is getting. News like this should be treated with the utmost contempt.

First thing, why the hell are these useless film stars invited to Independence day celebrations. I am pretty sure, SRK for all his pomp and glory, cannot name 5 freedom fighters if asked. Seems to me he deserved the treatment he received. Indians cannot touch a hair on him, so Americans decide to take things in their hands.

As per SRK’s statement in some newspapers he accused US official of targeting him beacuse of his Khan surname and continues to say that why didn’t they target another Khan in the same line. This proves that all he does is B.S.
Another, media report said that he didn’t have papers in hand and he had let his secretary carry his documents. Which again is foolish and arrogance on his part. If all these are true, he deserved it. I think US officials have brought him to the ground.
Also, Ambika Soni’s call for tit-for-tat action is foolish. She seems to be fitting into the shoes of Renuka Chou. If India has anything to learn from this incident , it is the strict security system irrespective person’s name & fame.

Mr.Modi is refused visa, Mr.George Fernades is frisked. Mr.Kalam is frisked. And now Mr.Khan is detained for close questioning. At least there seems to be no religious discrimination there, but here some seems to be happy only because it is a ‘Khan.’. Sad…………
I’m glad the security screening procedure is applied uniformly across the board, irrespective of one’s VIP or VVIP status.

No need pay too much attention such things. There are many burning problems in the country. Let Khan be there, he is not the only one, there are so many Khans who have achieved and sacrificed for the country.

Churmuri,
You obliviously failed to get the issue or the said blogger, when he says this”interrogated for reasons we don’t know yet but most likely related to whether Shah Rukh had a proper visa or such paperwork,”. How pathetic is this guy.
The reason is all clear, US has gone Islamophobia. It is seeped deep into the sych of its citizens, whose leader was supposed to be “talked directly to GOD” TO INITIATE CRUSADES.
We know what happened to all crusades before, so this will also go bust sooner than later taking down Empire.

Why shouldn’t SRK be exempt from suspicion of terrorism? If a Sanjay Dutt has been convicted of procuring lethal weapons and concealment, and association with Known terrorists, why is it absurd if a security official does his due diligence on verifying SRK’s claims??
When Mr. Kalam, as honorable as he is, was frisked our politicians went into a rage that he was subjected to an indignity? If being frisked is heaping indignity on someone, then what about millions who are subjected to such undignified frisking.

I agree with MMM. I add that Shah Rukh is reported to have exclaimed that lucky his family members were not with him, otherwise he doesn’t know what they would have done with them (the authorities). It is totally an arrogant statement.

SRK was rudely awakened from his cloud 9 slumber. I think he should not have made a huge issue out of it. As sombody said earlier, it surely helps his up comming film release.
By the way i saw his “Swades”on Independence day. It truely inspired me. Hats off to the director Ashutosh for making such a sensitive movie.

there are possibly simple reasons. srk’s passport would have shown his visits to pakistan, middle-east and london. as you may know, people with that travel profile have spread great love the world over. so some clerk prolly said, halt who goes there, state your purpose and destination. thas all.
apparently john abaraham also got the call. because he had afghanistan on his pp.
well the great, mammooty also got the call. but he was magnanimous and sensible about the whole issue. must be a southern thing.
so many ordinary people get harassed world over everyday, where are these people when indian travellers are harassed in dushku, moscow malyasia, not to mention middle east? as if only srk matters as if only when america does it matters.
