Watching TV used to be simple in the age of terrestrial broadcasting. The advent of satellite, cable and dish have made viewing a more pleasurable experience, of course, but there are unintended consequences sometimes.
This afternoon, Tata Sky viewers watching Jaswant Singh‘s exceedingly gracious press conferences after his disgraceful removal from the party of The Great Debators he had served for 30 years, had a red button with an option to “Send Flowers” popping up on their screens.

Superb!

Had to happen. Wonder where the gentleman will go now politically?

Our political parties should grow up.
They should have regular and truly representative elections (instead of backroom machinations by some top 20 leaders). They should be more tolerant of the views and expressions of their colleagues and not hide behind party discipline mantra.
What is the big crime in a person holding a view on one subject that is not in line with rest of party thinking? If everyone within BJP thought alike on all subjects and said the same thing, then all we need is a party of one person!!!
While we may disagree with some things Jaswant had to say, why punish him for holding a view and expressing it honestly?
What does it say about BJP’s respect for Right of expression, as long as that expression isn’t crossing the limits of decorum?

May not have happened if the RSS werent such a fascist organization.
19 August 2009 at 6:02 pm
AG – Please stop talking like an idiot. If RSS were a fascist organization, Advani would have been packed long ago.
There have been innumerable such fellows in the party before, who have stayed on and not been kicked out.
Low IQ freaks fail to see that the party knew of the book all along and did nothing to stop J Singh.
This reaction of the BJP is clearly on lines of that other paragon of virtue, the Congress, that would react to a slight or passing of a dissenting note, during a party meeting. Get the link? Refresh memory?
What do you think ANY party in Hindusthan would have done if J Singh were it’s member today? With his recent record?
But no! RSS is fascist!!

Boastful,
I think he was expelled for his contrariness and discovering phantom virtues in Jinnah. Also even coming from BJP, Nehru and Patel ave qualities that are consistent with modern India. With Jinnah it is well-proven that his ‘State’ was always doomed.
Also BJP decided this ‘besotted about Jinnah’ school of thought should stop. In fact I want the ‘success’ Oddvani to resign now! (Success as in having many fathers while failure is an orphan:) )
19 August 2009 at 10:28 pm
The RSS fascists needs to purge their troupe of anyone who is not narrow-minded enough for them. Ergo Jaswant Singh is shown the door.
DB,
‘Besotted about Jinnah’ seems to be a foundation stone for the RSS. Otherwise where is the argument of a nation run by brahmin/baniyas and other chosen castes?

Does Tata Sky put those ads randomly or did someone choose that Value-Added-Service?
20 August 2009 at 12:25 am
Like any other party would keep him!
Put your money where you mouth is and tell us who in this political sphere is backing J Singh? Which other party is inviting him? And btw, when was the last time you wrote in his support? :))
I’m a Hindu nationalist and I have openly stated my contrarian view here. I have argued my view in Hindu forums too.
It’s easier to bad mouth Hindutva greats in any Hindu organization and remain than it is to do the same wrt Nehru-Gandhi in the Congress or the same in any other political party in this country.
Who the hell are you kidding with your fascism slur?? Your too funny man! But try this funny stuff with ignoramuses here. Not with me.

It is clear that the faction feud in BJP is coming into open in unabashed manner.
The observation on Jinna in Jaswants book is not the cause but a provocation for taking the organisation.
He was a marked man after he had openly come out against the coterie culture which is growing in BJP in the same manner in which it had taken roots in Congress.
This was something, which was not expected from the former future Prime Minister of India.

The Major will not reject the flowers for sure. It is a novel way to express support, sympathy, solidarity. But just let me know if Tata Sky wants us to send thorns to Advani.
Now, reports clearly indicate that it was Advani who drove the nail into the coffin. What can I say, perhaps he was bending backwards or trying hard to earn brownie points after his own Jinnah fiasco. Perhaps it was his attempt to wipe out the Jinnah blackmark in his own political career. After many (suicidal)-a-slip, he has managed to crawl back to Party Supremo’s place and may be he wanted to express his gratitude to the powers-that-be and powers-that-may-be. In their happiness, lies his status, it seems.
In fact news channels which are always looking out for issues to launch polls, and urge viewers to call or sms, can now include this feature and include a bouquet of flowers or thorns or a bowl of rotten eggs for that matter (depending on the responses) somewhere on the screen. Call it a pictorial edit, if you like! Citizen journalist style.

‘X’ Guy,
But wWell that is how it is in India. What Utopian state has great capable leaders belonging to insanely great communities? Please enlighten us. Thanks.

Modi has now gone and banned a book Jaswant Singh wrote.
Inciting hate, beating up women, banning books. Getting there.
Maybe he should arrange a public bonfire of the books too, will be in keeping with the RSS image of trying to avoid any criticism, debate or reality check.
