Al Jazeera’s media show, The Listening Post, on how 24×7 media is dangerously inflaming passions against US President Barack Obama with lies, untruths and rhetoric—a little like the way a newspaper advertisement greeted John F. Kennedy the day he arrived in Dallas in 1963.

Interesting that when Narendra Modi is subjected to same kind of vicious attacks 24×7 on Indian news channels it is all brushed under “secularism”.
So Obama is a victim of media now? Again proves those who live by media die by media.
In Indian context we have this happening for a while now. See how Gandhi family is handled with kids gloves by media vs how they treat Modi.
Fact that Rahul baba visiting a village is headline news shows how serious our media is. Why are UP villages so backward even after decades when Rahul’s own great grandfather, grand mother, dad ruled India all these decades?

Vikram,
Namo has been doing some good work in Guj, no doubts about it. However he has a bit too much of blood on his hands for the media to turn a blind eye . Yes, you may be right that sometimes the media does go overboard in overzealous covering of him. However the comparison with Barack O doesn’t wash because unlike NaMo BO hasn’t executed a bloody chapter (atleast so far) and the campaign seems to be more inspired due to that bad word – ‘Racism’ and less due to his acts of omissions and commissions.
I m not a card carrying member of Congress however I like what Rahul baba seems to be doing. Atleast he seems to be travelling around the country side and get a first hand feel of the ground. I can’t say the same about many other young politicians (scions included). But then he seems to face the piquant situation – damned if I do, damned if I don’t.
It’s nobody’s case to argue that UP is backward and yes a large portion of that blame can be laid at the steps of Congress. But then watch the political landscape of most of the North-Indian states post 1977. You would see many of these states have had significant periods of non-Congress rule. A case in point could be Madhya Pradesh. Do you see any major difference in human dev indicators between UP and MP and the answer alas would be No.

Amazing HeadVillager!
You should read Tavleen Singh in Indian Express to cure yourself about Rahul Baba’s rural mysticism:) With ‘thinking’ men like you, no wonder the Congress stock is flying high!

Dear DB,
Now..now..Tavleen Singh being chosen as the sole arbiter of public opinion is a bit rich no? Would you also go by her sermon (titled ‘Hindutva doublespeak’ in IE during the vintage Pink Chaddi days) or would it be just limited to her regular fulminations on Rahul G?
While I don’t want to be uncharitable, she may just be a wee bit better than the other armchair n keyboard queen Shobhaa Dey. Give me anyday Swapan Dasgupta or Arun Shourie and not these pseudo intellectual elitists please.
