Will you buy a used crystal ball from these men?

Mosaic

Astrologers, palmists, numerologists, soothsayers, gemmologists and assorted fortune-tellers are supposed to reassure us about the future. But television bosses, especially in Hindi, seem to have decided that they can only get their message across if they are ghastly and scare the hell out of viewers.

when a parrot card reader offered to tell me my fortune, I asked him to first tell me how much money I have in my wallet. He said “how can I tell that” I replied- if you can’t tell something right infront of you that can be instantly verified, how can you tell future…

  4. Simple Says:

These forutune tellers probably predicted that the TRPs of whichever channel they were advertising themselves in, would rise.

Has the TRPs really gone up?

These guys should have to prove their claims/predictions are always right or suffer law suits.

  9. Atmavilas Nagaraja Says:

Considering that most astrologers have been proven wrong in their predictions, people should not depend on them to dictate or direct their future anymore.

Consider some famous/notorious cases of such openly fraudulent predictions- election results, annual rainfall and related agricultural crop output, the personal lives and histories of prominent personalities like political leaders, even royalty and so on.

When sure success is predicted for somebody, it turned overnight into total failure as with the fairytale wedding of a prince of yore.

One can reel off the number of people who have been trapped or crippled by such predictions in their personal lives.

Hence in my opinion, it is best not to depend on these tricksters. Instead it is best to rely on one’s own talents and hard work.

I agree to all the negative influence these people have, however sometimes what they say has a soothing effect on people which actually allows them to be more prepared. Like, in case someone looses a job, they go to an astrologer who tells them that they will soon get a job. Hearing this that person starts applying with confidence which boosts his chances of landing a job. Instead, if someone told him that chances are bleak then the person will be agitated and not confident in his approach. So I feel that sometimes these people actually help.

  11. shanks Says:

Well.. weather we like it or not…. let me tell you that it is this moral fear that is keeping the society to whatever level we are in. Do you think people fear the law of the land…. ha ha ha

May this kind of program live long…..

A Kannada newspeper once carried a report that Chandrashekhara Swamy was going to meet the then President George W Bush and the Presidential candidate Obama!

  13. Vishal Says:

The media guys are the biggest hypocrites here – most newspapers spare generous columns and most TV channels spare adequate time for astrological programs and then deride the same with an elitist attitude. The media guys, I am sure, are as much into astrology as anyone else although they never miss an opportunity to show off their snobbery. If the media is serious enough about its criticism of astrology as a superstition, then they should stop giving them any space.

Most people I know who say that they don’t believe in astrology are plain liars. Their claims are as hollow as their vanities.

And if astrology is superstitious so is faith-healing.

  15. Anonymous Guy Says:

Media will give space to whatever sells. If people are idiotic enough to seek out their future in mass-produced horoscopes, it will get printed/broadcast. And unlike smut and gore it need not be veiled and presented to readers/viewers.

  16. Karthik Says:

These are highly similar to the load of “experts” who offer stock advice on CNBC, NDTV Profit and the magazines. The vagueness, success rate of the “experts” in either case is the same.
The only thing that differentiates between the two kinds is probably their appearance.

  17. Dr. Sree Reddy Says:

All those Astrologers need pscychatric treatment or mnm counselling!!
