When the mountains spoke silently down below

15 years before she practised peetha dhyanam with Paramahamsa Nithyananda on the small screen three nights ago, the Tamil actress Ranjeetha starred with Arjun Sarja on the big one in what S.P. Balasubramanyam calls one of the greatest songs he has ever recorded.

The movie was Karna, the composer was the brilliant Vidyasagar.

Vidyasagar says he had already recorded S. Janaki‘s portion of the song. SPB, who had been recording all day (this being 1995) turned up at the studio, only to say he he would record his bit the following day. Vidyasagar asked SPB to listen to what Janaki had rendered before he left. Floored by the lyrics and the melody, SPB recorded it despite the fatigue.

    S. Janaki and SPB rendering of this song is excellent and one of the most melodious song.
    Sadly the dubbed version in Kannada does not match up to the original.

    Churumuri:

    Let us not be judgmental about what people choose to do in the privacy of four walls.

    In case of exposing a Godman, who claims to be a role model for the large number of people, at least there is some justification. But, why denigrate the name of an yesteryear actress in this? What wrong has she committed?

    We don’t know what her circumstances or life choices are. Lets leave her alone.

    >>Let us not be judgmental about what people choose to do in the privacy of four walls. >>

    beware of people like harkol. these men make four walls and do anything they want be it IT call centers or homes.

    >>We don’t know what her circumstances or life choices are>>

    instead of helping her to adopt a better social norm these people leave her and churn out more services from her. pimps.

  4. Kitapati Says:

    She is full of oomph. very suggestive in her movements.
    One sentence in the song says Mouna is veda, Silence is knowledge. Wonder why she fell for a chatterbox talkative swami. Or maybe she was a key part of the conspiracy. Either way she has got one Fan here.

  5. mysore peshva Says:

    haha! — swami balasubramanyananda indeed!

  6. kavitha Says:

    This was one of the very few songs that was composed by Vidyasagar that is melodious but calling him “composer was the brilliant Vidyasagar” is going overboard.

  7. NS Rao Says:

    nitha ‘Linga’ ananda swamy is really lucky!

    >beware of people like harkol.

    How appropriately have you chosen your name! You are trying to bully someone for holding an opinion that may be different than yours..
    I’m sure you’d do Bal thackerey proud with your self-righteousness.

    So, what is your peeve exactly – is it that no one should be able to do between 4 walls, something you are incapable of?

    :)

  9. Dr. Sree Reddy Says:

    why link this song, singer and actress with asharam episode? I think two are different. It is a melodious song, I think.
    Godmen exploiting ‘faith’ of gullible people is wrong.

    @dr.sree

    its a quizzers mind at work.. a typical trivia question would be: What is teh claim to fame of the actress in this video?

    @bully
    Harkol is not saying that such things are to be tolerated. But the solution to such immoral acts does not lie in public humiliation.

    @harkol:
    Sleeping with a prostitute would be a scandal. Sleeping with an actress is a sensation..hence the actress’ name being dragged in

  11. harkol Says:

    Shyam:
    >Sleeping with an actress is a sensation..

    So… An easter year actress, who has given up acting for long, doesn’t need to be treated with dignity? What’s the purpose of humiliating her? There is no public good that gets served by dragging her name, or showing her face.

    I am not saying what she did is morally right or wrong. What I am saying is it is her choice of morals, not for us to decide. And she didn’t break any law or a covenant (unlike the swamy in this case).

    = Let one who has never sinned, cast the first stone. =
