If nearly 60% of the country is below 25 years of age, the collage is a reminder of what 1983 was to nearly two-thirds of the country that wasn’t born when Kapil Dev and his men did ditto—in pre-liberalised India, an age before satellite television, when one-day cricket was played over 60 overs.

ವಿಶ್ವ ಕಪ್ ಗೆದ್ದ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಅಭಿನಂದನೆಗಳು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಕೊನೆಯವರೆಗೂ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾತ್ಮಕ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಆಡಿದ ಶ್ರೀಲಂಕೆಗೂ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು. ಮೊನ್ನೆ ಮೊನ್ನೆಯ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನದ ಎದುರಿನ ಸೆಮಿ ಫೈನಲ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದ ಕ್ರೇಜ್, ಇದೊಂದು ಯುದ್ಧ ಅನ್ನುವ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಫೈನಲ್ ಪಂದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಷ್ಟಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಸೆಮಿ ಫೈನಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನವನ್ನು ಸೋಲಿಸಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು, ಫೈನಲ್ ಗೆಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ ಆದೀತು ಅನ್ನುವ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಕಪ್ಪು ಬೇಕೇ ಬೇಕು ಅನ್ನುವ ತರಹದ ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡೆ. ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಕಪ್ ಗೆದ್ದ ತಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳು (ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ) ಬಹುಮಾನದ ಸುರಿಮಳೆ ಗೈದು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಸಂಖ್ಯ ಪಾಪುಲಿಸ್ಟ್ ಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆ. ಒಂದು ಆಟಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಗಮನ, ಆದ್ಯತೆ ಕೊಡುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಅದರ ಅರ್ಧದಷ್ಟು ಗಮನ ಈ ದೇಶದ, ಅದರ ಜನರ ಜ್ವಲಂತ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಪರಿಹಾರ ಹುಡುಕುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮೆದುರು ಇರುವ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವಕ್ಕಾದರು ಪರಿಹಾರ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿರುತಿತ್ತೇನೋ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿತು.
ಯಾವುದು ದೇಶ ಪ್ರೇಮ ?
ಮೈದಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಎಂದು ಕೂಗುವುದೋ, ಮುಖಕ್ಕೆ ಬಣ್ಣ ಬಳಿದು ಕುಣಿದು ಕುಪ್ಪಳಿಸುವುದೋ, ಇಲ್ಲವೇ ಪಂದ್ಯ ಗೆದ್ದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಾರಿಗೋಗಿ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಹೊಡೆದು ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋ ಎಂದು ಕಿರಿಚುವುದೇ ದೇಶಪ್ರೇಮ ತೋರಿಸುವ ಮಾರ್ಗ ಅನಿಸುವಂತಹ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಇದೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಯುವಕರಲ್ಲಿ. ಹಾಗಿದ್ರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲೇಬಾರದಾ? ಮಾಡಲೇ ಬಾರದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಮಾರಲ್ ಪೋಲಿಸಿಂಗ್ ನಿಲುವು ನನ್ನದಲ್ಲ. ಯಾರಿಗೂ ತೊಂದರೆ ಆಗದಂತೆ ಖಂಡಿತ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ಯಾವ ತಪ್ಪು ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಒಂದು ಆಟಕ್ಕೆ ಮೈ ಮೇಲೆ ಆವೇಶ ಬಂದಂತೆ ವರ್ತಿಸುವ ಇದೇ ಜನರು ನಿಜವಾದ ದೇಶಪ್ರೇಮ ತೋರಿಸುವಂತ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಾದ “ಟ್ರಾಫಿಕ್ ರೂಲ್ಸ್ ಅನುಸರಿಸುವುದು”,”ಫೂಟ್ ಪಾತ್ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೈಕು ಓಡಿಸದಿರುವುದು”, “ಕಂಡ ಕಂಡಲ್ಲಿ ಕಸ ಎಸೆಯದೆ, ಉಚ್ಚೆ ಹೊಯ್ಯದೆ” ಸಿವಿಕ್ ಸೆನ್ಸ್ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದರಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು “ಸಮಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ತೆರಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವುದು”, “ಪ್ರತಿ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಪ್ಪದೆ ಮತ ಚಲಾಯಿಸುವುದು”, ಇಂತಹ ನಾಗರಿಕ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಯ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಇದೇ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ, ಇದೇ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರಾ? ದೇಶಪ್ರೇಮದ ನಿಜವಾದ ಮಾಪನಗಳಾದ ಇವುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ದಿವ್ಯ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ ತಾಳುವ ಜನರು ಒಂದು ಮ್ಯಾಚ್, ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಒಂದು ದೇಶದ ವಿರುದ್ಧದ ಪಂದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಗಮನ ಎಲ್ಲೋ ಒಂದು ಕಡೆ ನಿಜವಾದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಂದ, ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಗಳಿಂದ ನುಣುಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ, ಪಲಾಯನವಾದಿ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿಯೇ ಅನ್ನುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿಯ ಪ್ರಜೆಗಳಿಂದಾಗಿಯೇ ಇವರನ್ನು ಆಳುವ ದೊರೆಗಳು ಗೆದ್ದ ಆಟಗಾರರಿಗೆ(ಅದು ಕೂಡಾ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ನೂರಾರು ಕೋಟಿ ದುಡಿಯುವ ಆಟಗಾರರಿಗೆ) 60X80 ಸೈಟು ಕೊಡ್ತೀನಿ ಅನ್ನೋ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಚೀಪ್ ಪಾಪುಲಿಸ್ಟ್ ಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಜೋತು ಬೀಳೋದು. ದೇಶದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಅವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗೂ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬೈಯುತ್ತ, ತಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯಿಂದ ಜಾರಿಕೊಂಡು, ಮ್ಯಾಚ್ ಇದ್ದಾಗ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಹಾಕೊಂಡು, ಮುಖಕ್ಕೆ ಬಣ್ಣ ಬಳ್ಕೊಂಡು ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಎಂದು ಕೂಗಿ, ಮ್ಯಾಚ್ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಮನೆಗ್ ಬಂದು ಊಟ ಮಾಡಿ ಮಲಗಿ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಎದ್ದು ಮತ್ತದೇ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು, “ಈ ದೇಶದ ಕತೆ ಇಷ್ಟೇ ” ಅಂತ ಬೈಕೊಂಡು, ವೀಸಾ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಅಮೆರಿಕಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾರಿ ಹೋಗಿ ಡಾಲರ್ ಎಣಿಸೋ ಕನಸು ಕಾಣೋ ಜನರ ದೇಶಪ್ರೇಮ ಎಷ್ಟು shallow ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತೆ .

I hope a lawyer files a PIL to stop giving away free land to cricketers. It is too much of the cricketers to expect to say no to free land. Will our devegowda who protests vehemently against infy and NICE takes up this cause as well. 50*80 sites at Rs.1000 also psft (which is a low under to consider in Bengaluru pittance) means Rs.40 l per site and for 15 cricketers Rs.60 crores. Yaraappana mane gantu antha yeddyurappa ee sitesna kodtha idaanappa. our own poor ashwini akkunje is left high and dry after winning asian gold. what priorities?
ANd as brilliant a win, it was and as fantastic sportspeople they might be, I hope the naming of roads and circles as sachin and dhoni also stops.

All news headings say India’s BCCI team won the World Cup Cricket. But Bupati and Paes won the Ericsson trophy and are the World Number ONE in Tennis doubles. No news headlines. So much hype for Cricket. Why? Viswanth Anand was called a foreigner after owning all his contribution. Very sad!

As per BDA 2% of the the sites are reserved for sportsmen, artists and scientists.
At present only Arkavati layout with 20000 sites is still open for allotment. And hence one can not have more than 200 sites alloted in this category. Mind you this 400 sites are not for cricketers .. it is for all the sports, all the arts and all the sciences!!
Further, the BDA rules stipulate following entry criteria for being eligible to a BDA site.
• Persons who have attained 18 years of age.
• Domicile of Karnataka for 15 years prior to date of registration.
• All India services 2 years Domicile Certificate (Central Govt Employees).
• Persons who does not own Site/House/Flat.
These rules were made to ascertain social equity within the federal structure of Indian constitution.
Yedeooorappa can not subvert constitution to satisfy his vicarious whims. If he wants to shower gifts on Cricketers.. let him loosen his cheddi and bend over.

Vasant and Yella OK, I fully support your views. It is too too tooooooooooo much. No doubt, the cricketers have brought glory to our country and they should be rewarded for their efforts, contribution. But to drown them in money is condemnable. The media hype, projection of this extent is also not correct. We read in the very same newspapers about the plight of other sports persons who had excelled in their field and now living in penury, whereas one crore for each sixers is given in IPL. Our country indeed lives in two extremes. It is like a Mercedes and a bullock cart travelling on the same road!

he has not even ensured that his promise of land to Pankaj advani and Ashwini who are people from our state.
So he is least expected to fulfill his promise for cricketers none of whom are from our state and are not going to live here.
