Churumuri is pleased to take note the following advertisement which appears on page 6 of the Mysore Edition of The Hindu today.
“CHANGE OF NAME: I, K. Shivaramu (former name), commissioner, social welfare department, 5th floor, M.S. Building, Dr Ambedkar Veedhi, Bangalore – 560001 have changed my name to K. SHIVRAM (new name) vide affidavit before Notary Sri Jayappa on 27.04.2006.”
Wonder why. Can any numerology buffs out there enlighten us on the difference between SHIVARAMU and SHIVRAM?

It was a conspiracy of mEl jAtis that christened him as Shivaramu!
Just like in all potraits, B. R. Ambedkar has his teeth straightened, face whitewashed and is worn a three piece suit, which were all exclusive luxuries of mEl jAtis!
Just like that, our poor Shivarama wants to rebel against the society by renaming his name and remove that caste indicating suffix to his good name.
It is also a reason for his cuddling and dancing with almost albino girls in his films.
It is also a conspiracy of mEl jAtis which has made it impossible to win national awards for acting!

The change of name from SHIVARAMU to SHIVARAM hardly makes a difference except quenching the numerological passion of the person concerned. After all what is there in a name? Though a rose is a rose is a rose and though a rose smells as sweet by any other name it is equally true that bullshit is bullshit and smells as foul by any other name howsoever sweet! All said and done it is left to the sweet will of SHIVARAM to change his name i.e., either to retain or to delete the last letter U from his name. Let us not make a mountain out of a molehill.

So what if Shivaramu becomes Shivram? Its his choice & his preference. Thousands change their names. Even our DyCM changed in his name from Yediyurappa to Yeddyurappa. So what big deal? Why single out Shivram?

nash: Why bring caste factor into this trivial issue? Can’t Indians think of anything without attaching the caste tag?
FYI, K Shivram was the first person to write Civil services exam in Kannada and clear it. Its quite an accomplishment and beacon for rest who followed.

so many persons are changing names. nothing in name, all in work. he is doing his work correctly.
we want excelent, dynamic, helpfull officer.Mr. k. shivaram having these qualities.
one more thing, please dont forget ‘ he is the first person passed IAS exams in kannada. really we are all appreciate to this person who created a new history in IAS.
i think he is the first IAS officer, who keep his preciouse time to meet the poor people.

Why people are comenting about changing his name. That is his right to do.. none of our business. I saw him very closely.. he is such a person… helped a lot by introducing somany schemes (airhostess, foriegn study, nursing etc..) for the poor students to make thier life in fruitful way. I feel proud of him…

Why is that every government agency is afraid to investigate the alleged wrongdoings of this man when he was Shivaramu?
Incidentally, in most cases, adding a “u” to one’s name generally indicates affection in Kannada. Devegowda’s chief minister son is rarely referred to as “Kumaru.” With his patriarchal bent, he would rather be “Kumaranna,” “anna” in this case meaning not “brother,” but “lord.”
It is pure anglophilia that leads us to have names that end in consonants rather than vowels. “Roopesh” is another example aside from K. Shivaramu. Our kin in north Karnataka positively revel in words and names that end in vowels, especially the sound represented by the sign “a;” for example, Bheemasena Joshi, Giraddi Govindaraja, Chandrashekhara Pateela, Sarojini Mahishi, Aravinda Limbavali. In southern Karnataka we have Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Ramesh (Aravind) Comedy Ganesh. We are in a big hurry to dispense name endings like “ayya,” appa,” and even “amma.” Except in cases like “Mukthaayakka,” it is rare for us to hear a Kannada woman carrying the suffix “akka.”
It is a shame that modernisation of names now means largely sanskritisation. What can make the alleged Sanskrit loving priestly caste happier? Oh, yes, I do realise sanskritisation is ironically a means of not drawing attention to jaathi, implicit in certain names. I wonder if there is a way to get rid of caste indicators and still hang on to some of our Kannada names or use thadbhavas for thathsamas. Pulikeshi should be something like “hulimudi.” It will be a sad day if “Nanjundayya” is entirely replaced by “Neelakantha,” Srikantha,” or “Vishakantha.”

Ondu upakaara maadu, thamma. See if you can refer to your newly minted district as “Ramanagara” rather than “Ramanagaram.” There is no need for us humour a vote bank. What will be the reaction of a Tamil if we insisted on saying “Gopinathashetti Paalya,” instead of “Gopinathachetty Paalyam?” if we were living in Tamil Naadu, I mean, Tamil Naad.
