What she means is her portfolio, but she could…

The Twitter bug bites the newly sworn-in minister of Karnataka, Shobha Karandlaje, in a Freudian sort of way.

What the controversial MLA from Yeshwanthpur probably means is that she has been allotted the “power” portfolio in the recast team. But having unwittingly been made a sacrificial lamb in the battle between chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa and the Reddy brothers last November, the tweet could well contain a note of exultation at having got back what had been cruelly snatched from her.

Pavan Murali writes:

“It would be great if our ministers realize that with power comes responsibility. Not once have I seen a minister rejoice when they have had to shoulder additional responsibility, but we always see them unable to contain their excitement when offered more power. Unfortunate.”

Then again, as the historian John Dalberg-Acton said famously:

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Reminds me of the joke making rounds during the last election. When the results were coming out, someone called Yeddy and wished “ShubhashayagaLu”. Yeddy misheard and said “Howdu Howdu, Shobha Gedlu”.

  2. Nagendra Bhatta Says:

No word on massive corruption at CWG-Delhi by ‘remote control’ PM and his embarrassing officials. Instead, let’s focus on a lady who made it back to cabinet. Is there any surprise why our corrupt officials and policiticians can pull off a massive ‘CWG’ without any fear when we have ‘journalists’ like these….?

  3. DailyBread Says:

    Congratulations Shobha Karandlaje…..

    You deserve the power!!!

  4. Kennedy Says:

since may 2008, eshwar-father (appa) had made this ministry useless. it was worse than social welfare and agri marketing. he has played an important role in karnataka power (read electricity) crisis. many of the small hydel projects would have started generation by now.

anyway….with SK back, we can hope to see some activity in this sector

  5. Complex Says:

I have heard from reliable(fairly) sources that one of the reasons why she was shunted out was because she introduced e-tender for Zilla Panchayat works, and thus the source of bribes for the ZP officials and members dried up. She also held an objective exam for some village development officer or something. You had to apply for this online. The exam paper was by IISc. So, surely she wanted to bring some reforms.

Power is one sector which can do with a lot of improvement. Hope she does well.

Interesting the filth and the debris of the Common wealth game hasnt hit churumuri yet… Exposing Congress failures are so difficult-enre ?
Trying cheap distraction tactics to divert the failure of Secularism and congress!

  7. D P SATISH Says:

A local Kannada newspaper headline ‘ Shobhaage Yeddyurappa Indhana ‘!!

  8. Indu Ramesh Says:

Really! She will do a wonderfull job, whichever ministry she is allotted.
As for Commonwealth Games, surprising that churumuri is not mentioning it at all.

  9. VALALE SUBBANNA Says:

SK has a mammoth task ahead, coz this very important ministry in the last decade headed by idiots like Revanna and Eshwarappa.I dont think its that easy to clean up the mess.Anyway all the best SK.

    @D P SATISH-An interesting one.

  10. Ananth Says:

    Congratulations!

  11. Rajesh R Says:

Why are newspapers so much hogging masala news about SK and Yeddi, every paper has carried a photo of SK and Yeddi together… SK can be counted out of the set of jokers in Yeddi’s ministry.. she truly deserved a ministership….

It seems mens’ false pride does not accept a woman’s good work and name unless they become women Hitlers and start squeezing the b**** of all those MCPs.

  13. cpn Says:

One of the toughest portfolio to manage. If she can pull it off then she is bound to go higher in state/national politics. More ‘Power’ to you SK.

  14. Anshuman Patel Says:

As Kennedy says it’s an immense relief to get Shobha K heading the power portfolio after that clown Eashwarappa. It’s not only a visual relief but given the positives that she had earned in her earlier stint, I am hopeful she would do a good job in an important portfolio.

Some seem to be seeing the terrible anti-BJP conspiracy (which in turn should be read definitely as pro-Congress tilt) in Churumuri coming up with this piece in lieu of raging fire ie CWG. Unless you were living in caves with no internet connection in the last few months, you wouldn’t have missed the CWG based articles on Churumuri. It’s still not too late. You can search ‘Commonwealth’ and you would get them in archives.
