One question I’m dying to ask H.R. Bharadwaj

Barely a day after B.S. Yediyurappa “won” a vote of confidence in a severely depleted House by a voice-vote—and barely 18 hours after he himself recommended President’s rule in Karnataka—governor Hans Raj Bharadwaj has given “another chance” to the BJP government to prove that it has the trust of the majority of MLAs.

The Governor’s move overshadows a planned parade of the 105 MLAs that the BJP was planning before the President and the ruling of the Karnataka high court on the disqualification of the BJP MLAs and independents that was so crucial in Yediyurappa’s victory. But what if the CM, who has won the vote, declines to take a fresh one, or if the HC rules that the disqualification of MLAs was by the book?

What is the one question you’re dying to ask H.R. Bharadwaj?

Keep your queries short, civil and gubernatorial.

  2. VTVenkataram Says:

Hans Raj Bharadwaj has again proved that all his actions are arbitrary and haste. How can a governor , who sent a letter to the Central Government to recommending President’s rule in Karnataka, “another chance” to the BJP government to prove that it has the trust of the majority of MLAs.
Either his earlier action in recommending President’s rule is incorrect or his second action of giving one more chance( Child’s play) is incorrect.Either way his actions are dubious and questionable.

  3. BG Subhash Says:

Every move of Karnataka Governer is cold blooded and calculated to give advantage to opposition. In fact it appears he has thought all moves in advance and even typed letters in advance to be sent to CM. His meet the press seemed to be more from congress and than from the governer. Governer must understand that by all his one sided antics he is slowly facilitating passing on the sympathies of the public to BJP! Governer`s actions are tainted. Karnataka politics has not only attained the name Tainted but it has facilitated the name of Governer being tagged with Taint. Tainted governer!

    H.R. Bharadwaj,

    What’s Sonia madam’s shoe size?

ps:Karnataka deserves more than these bunch of idiots.Or do we?

  6. Sandeep Kamath Says:

  8. Bengalooru Haida Says:

    Respected dude,

Why can’t you just enjoy your retirement perks and chill? Can’t you just make the ‘right’ noises and then amble softly into the sunset? What’s with this activism? Can’t you try to be as impartial as Hon. Speaker Bopaiah?

Do you realize via your hyperventilation you top the most hated/dreaded list of Yeddy? Ok, you didn’t know? Here it is.

    1. Gov Gov ie you
    2. Bow Bow – Dogs – in the last few days he has invoked this quite a few times while referring to opposition
    3. Shani ( The real one..not to be confused with Reddy/s, DG, HDK)
    4. Blackmagic
    5. AnantKumar

ps: 2-5 rankings are not necessarily in that order. Anantkumar might just be breathing down your neck as we speak.

  9. Mahesh Vijapurkar Says:

Mr Bharadwaj, would one more chance suffice that you are a governor with a constitutional obligation, not a politician serving the interests of a political party?

  10. NS Rao Says:

How much cut did you get from the sponsorship of “Q” to Kumaranna? Of that how much went to Congress(I) Kitty?

  11. Mysore Peshva Says:

Bharadwaj is the classic Kaangressi governor from the 1980s, manipulative, platitudinal, trying every way to topple a non-Kaangressi government…

Not that most of Karnataka’s BJP MLAs deserve much better.

My question: Shri. Bharadwaj, why did you kick the anti-cow slaughter bill to the President without making a call on it?

  12. Furious_Telangana Says:

The nuke deal trust vote needs a second chance
The price rise trust vote needs a second chance
All trust votes need a second chance to be made fool proof

    Let it roll…

  13. 'mudi'malnad Says:

when do you want to go to Gujarat?[not me this Soniajis question]

  14. Balaji Says:

Do we still need a governor?

  15. boring journalist Says:

Mr Bharadwaj, for all your loyalty and long stint of service in the Congress how did you fail to assess the mood of the Congress High Command (Mrs Soniaji), it was in no mood to annoy BJP under any circumstances. For it has lot of hurdles to be cleared in the Rajyasabha with BJP,s help.
For Congress is more bothered about what would happen in Rajyasabha or in the Bihar elections than worry about Karnataka, where anyway the Congress had no chance of making hay, with Devegowda and Kumaraswamy duo sitting like hawks to eat all the pudding by themselves.

Perhaps your were eyeing for a promotion and may be you were dreaming of landing yourself in the gaddi of the vice president one day or others.

Alas your move has backfired and you have been made to eat humble pie publicly. At the instance of your Masters you have given a good opportunity for Yeddyurappa to bale out easily. If you were so serious about giving “second chance” for the BJP, the least your could have done was to wait for the High Court to pronounce the judgement in the disqualification case.
    You deserve to be pitied

  16. Pulikeshi the Last Says:

    Ayya Bharadwaja–

    Ramlal andre yaru antha gottha?

  17. Shenoy A Says:

If I may ask, why on earth has so little been said in the TV and national print media of the now well-accepted black money sponsorship of Gowda and Kumaranna’s money bags by the ambitious son of the Bofor scam and the billion dollar Rajiv Gandhi/Sonia Gandhi secret Swiss bank kick-backs fame alias CBI protected-escapee called Ottavio Quattrocchi., Viz., Massimo Quattrocchi (CI Partners).

Yes, the crook’s son has a black money joint/office in Blr!

Back to the media, why has no one highlighted the free use of a fleet of the latest helicopters, chartered KF/JA aircrafts and Taj five-star hotel stays of the masterminds and the players in the political drama?

Accepted: It is obviously not just the opposition parties that dangled the bait of currency note-filled suitcases, as several legislators from the JD(S), Independants and BJP are now secretly vouching for their rich and unique experiences (pray God no AIDS) over the past three days.

It is really a sad reflection on the local media that apart from a remote item in The Hindu and a isolated item in Indian Express, no other media channel (including the investigative and popular channel TV9 Kannada and highly popular Vijaya Karnataka Newspaper) carried any news on the money power behind all the developments!

Well, it is now imperative that the retired yet most ambitious former Congress-I law minister and perpetually Vice Presidential hopeful from North India, Sri Bharadwaj miserably failed to assess the mood of the Congress High Command (former Air Italia flight stewardess now called Sonia-Ji).

Having said all this, while it is now probable that this Govt will likely run its full term despite the occasional odds, it is pretty obvious that the soon-to-be-key-liability & corrupt baggage called Yedi will be replaced in the near future by the smart, foresight-oriented RSS cheddi’s. In the past, it was immediate political compulsions and also his other half who, despite the reddy’s iron fist and much-need resources managed to bail himself and also get herself back into pseudo ‘shakti’!

Anyone watching this once loyal and so called-hardworking RSS worker thrusting his own son/MP in front of the TV9 cameras recently (shoving other BJP MLA’s aside including veteran RSS volunteers) or observing his most selfish corrupt reals estate, excise, IT, ST park, BDA/MUDA, Ore licensing, Forex actions and weakness over the last 9 months (against all core cadre rules), will know more of his definite fate dictated by the RSS Sarsanghchalak.

With Karnataka in focus, the BJP desperately needs all the public goodwill and a positive, infectious image in the key gateway to the south! After all, Modi has set the extraordinary and unchallenged example in Gujarat!

Finally, on a different note, why on earth has the Lokayukta (Nitte Santosh Hegde) been totally silent despite the huge amount of black money-cash transacted in the past week?

Where and what standards and public apathy are we all heading for?

  18. chriskb Says:

Have you no shame? You should join JD(S).

  19. Nastika Says:

Mr Gov has shown that he is secret admirer of BJP by calling for vote on 14th, even before the court has given verdict. If he was fair, he would have waited for court’s decision.

  20. Furious_Telangana Says:

Points taken from wikipedia of HR Bhardwaj

    1) He is a member of the Indian National Congress.

    2) A media shy minister, the old Gandhi family loyalist handled the most sensitive and controversial cases in the Manmohan Singh cabinet between 2004 and 2009.

    3) From Bofors to office of profit and the failed attempt to remove Navin Chawla as election commissioner, were all deftly handled by the Congress veteran to the satisfaction of the Prime Minister and party leadership.

    4) In March 2009, H R Bharadwaj was criticized for taking the initiative to de-freeze two bank accounts of Ottavio Quattrocchi, an accused in the Bofors Scam case, who is seen as a close friend of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. In particular, it appears he did not consult the investigating agency CBI which had gotten the accounts frozen.

    5) In July 2010, his comments on the powerful Bellary brothers, ministers in the B.S. Yeddyurappa government, particularly demanding their sacking for their alleged involvement in illegal mining generated a national debate. This was preceded by Bhardwaj rejecting the resignation of Lokayukta, Justice Hegde, leading to appreciation of his role as governor.

    6) Bharadwaj also received lots of flak from public and media for his unceremonious, scathing personal attack on Mysore university vice-chancellor V G Talawar when the latter was initiating action against former vice-chancellor J Shashidhar Prasad. Prasad is accused of committing irregularities in the recruitment of around 200 professors and readers during his tenure between 2003 and 2007.

There you go. The trump card of indian national congress in non-congress states. The fanboy of indian mainstream media.

  21. Bengalooru Haida Says:

Ok..good people, it’s time to go easy on the old man. He has atoned for his sins by asking dear Yeddy to take the supplementary tomorrow. Thereby he is bending his back to prove he is actually a friend of dear BJP in closet. It could’ve been dodgy if it were to happen after the HC verdict. So good people it’s time to rejoice and forgive all his follies.

  22. Angry Young Man Says:

    Mr. Bhara-dwaj,
Why have you become such a “Bhara” (big weight) on the good people of Karnataka? We are suffering enough already. Must you also pile on our miseries?

Ah, now I understand…You are doing your best to not only justify the “Bhara” in your name, but also the remainder of it, namely, “dwaj”, or “dhwaja” (flag). Curiously, that fluttering flag seems to have the imprint of a hand on it.

If Gowda and KumaraNNA are Dhritarastra and Duryodhana respectively, you are playing the part of Shakuni quite well. Wonder who the Pandavas are in this drama. The BJP folks certainly aren’t.

Unfortunately, no Oscar can be awarded to the actors of this “nakata” being played out on the stage called Karnataka.

Only Goddess Bhuvaneshwari should save us.

  23. Pulikeshi the Last Says:

Doesn’t Karnataka deserve anything better than this squalid farce? I do believe things would be far different if the legislators were better educated about life and the world in general. This applies to all 224 hegganas in the legislature and the one in the Residency.

  24. prasad Says:

    Whose CHAMCHA are you!?

  25. Nastika Says:

BTW, even if the BJP wins the trust vote on Oct 14, the decision will not be a final one since the high court on Oct 13 had said that the result would be subject to the final decision of the court in the writ petition that it will hear on Oct 18.

So if court decision is pending and will influence the out come of this trust, then why have this trust vote at all? Does it make sense to wait till court ruling? Or will the result today influence court ruling :)

  26. H Gowda Says:

@Pulikeshi: Righly said, there are indeed 224 hegganas in the legislature and the one in the Residency.

The majority of these unfortunately have accumulated so much benami land and unaccounted black money in such a short time that today 50 crores is like peanuts for them, partly thanks to the ‘mannina-ore’ billionaire Reddy bros, ‘mannina-magha’ poorest Vokkaliga-Gowda clan and obviously the Cong-I goons many of whom like DKS, Deshpande, Karge, Oscar, Siddaramaiah, R Baig, Hariprasad, Muniyapa or D Gundu Rao are now very well known ‘real estate barons’, some while still being in the so-called opposition!

In the midst of all these sick ‘hegganas’, is an old, figurehead of a CM who seems to have all the time in the world for pujas, temples, astrologers and latest obsession of projecting is MP son as the new face the doomed and now universally accepted, most corrupt Govt!

In the end, Blr and Karnataka will loose out while all these hegganas will continue to prosper for sure. No Metro, No high speed link to the airport, No Electricity, No Water Supply, No infrastructure, No this or that…absolutely nothing that makes a tangible difference to the common man’s daily life, which many of the other metros in India are already enjoying.

  27. Shetty Says:

With all respect to the judiciary, why has no one been told by the media as to who swiftly decided on the members of the bench, comprising chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice N Kumar?

The learned legal professionals are to decide if the elected MLA’s have betrayed their voters and society, as if it was not too obvious! While the legality of all actions is arguable, by succumbing overnight to massive wealth, the MLA’s have set an extremely bad precedent.

The last time Karnataka’s HC got into global fame was when they had a extremely famous, world record breaking individual called Justice Dinakaran, who has today been successfully given rehab in the super rich tea gardens of Assam by the Cong-I.

Well, we have a billion dollar decision on Monday and there are many questions that are obviously up to everyone’s imagination ;-)

  28. Swamy Says:

The fate of the five disqualified independents hangs in the balance. According to local evening newspapers, the Reddy brothers are understood to have given hope (read offers, promises and obvious crores..etc) to them by offering to take these pathetic rookie suckers back into their fold, while the 11 disqualified rebel legislators from BJP obviously look hopeless.

The status of the most shady Renukacharya appears too shaky with no goodwill from any RSS quarter to his favor except that of the CM’s son who apparently wants, this canny MLA’s help to settle scores with Katta Jagadish Naidu.

The Reddy bros are apparently now in advanced negotiations with the five disqualified independent MLAs to take them back in the government! Pretty shocking indeed, however with the most corrupt Yeddyurappa around, anything is possible!

As a plan of action, if their support to the government is ensured, the government may weaken the case against them so that court verdict favors them! And the speaker, taking the verdict as an advice, will revoke the disqualification, as he is not allowed to reverse his own ruling on disqualification.

However, there is a hitch! The JD(S) leaders and Gowda senior are suspected of having paid huge amount of black money to poach them before ‘operation topple’, and it would not be easy to come out of the trap that includes video evidence. A JD(S) leader said in the blr evening paper. “We have evidence that they were with us, and they will face serious trouble if they say otherwise.”

Well, Yeddyurappa is almost 100% sure to be replaced in the near future by the RSS top management with BJP figureheads watching helplessly. After all: this old, arrogant crook is sadly no super star like Narendra Modi but now a total liability!

For now, Tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy is a guranteed candidate for the deputy CM’s post

  29. Simple Says:

Every action of Bhardwaj is designed to help BJP.

    1. After the rebel BJP MLAs withdrew support, Bhardwaj gave BJP 6 days to prove its majority! Why six long days? Why the comfort of six days? So that leaders could be poached>?

Why could it not be held within two days?

    2. The second vote of confidence: After the high court postponed its decision on the 16 MLAs, it was more or less sure that BJP would again sail through, yet, the governor insisted on the trust vote – He wanted the BJP to be seen as winning again and again – to show the opposition in a bad light.

    3. Out of the 106 MLAs who voted for BJP, one was a nominated member. Since when are nominated members eligible for trust vote? Why did the Governor keep quiet about it?

On the other hand, the Speaker’s actions have been extremely partisan. Why does the media never highlight the speaker’s biased actions, instead of concentrating only on the governor?

Shankar Bidari’s note indicating that the 16 MLAs would not be allowed in the house, even before the disqualification of the MLAs by the speaker, clearly shows that Bidari and speaker were acting on the orders of the CM – as alleged by Ugrappa. Yet, nobody makes a song and dance out of this
