How the BJP has raised witchcraft to statecraft

SHOULD THIS MAN REALLY REVEAL ANY MORE IN PUBLIC?

As if more evidence was required to be proffered to the nation that the BJP’s disgraceful show in Karnataka is a daily dive from the pathetic to the ridiculous, the chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa has accused his detractors of employing “black magic” to finish him off politically and physically.

“I am not even sure of returning home after going to the Vidhana Soudha,” the ’2G Scam’-tained CM has said with a certitude that boggles the mind.

“There is a conspiracy to finish me off, and those who indulged in ‘black magic’ to unseat me from power but failed are indulging in it.” (Yediyurappa? 2G scam?)

As if on cue, the CM’s family priest Bhanuprakash Sharma has said he has advised his client to perform certain rituals to ward off evil. “I have advised him to perform the sahasra chandika yajna at the Chamundeswari Temple in Mysore and laksha modaka Ganapathi homa (offering 1 lakh modaks to Lord Ganesha),” he said.

The honourable chief minister has even decided to bare all for a surya namaskar in a river next week, according to some reports, although that isn’t a sight that will have people queueing up to see.

Yediyurappa has struck the “maata-mantra, threat-to-my-life” pose before; so if nothing else at least he is consistent in his mind-numbing superstition and obscurantism as the head of a supposedly “hi-tech” State.

“I am facing a threat to my life. I am aware of the places where they are performing the (maata-mantra) pujas to finish me off. Many of his opponents have suffered this fate fate in the past, and I could be the latest victim. They will be responsible if anything happens to my life. I will write to the home department complaining against the black magic of H.D. Deve Gowda and his sons. I will also write my will,” were Yediyurappa’s exact words in 2007.

Moreover, even at the height of the last but one round of the “crisis” surrounding his government, there were rumours that the gates of the Vidhana Soudha had been locked up days in advance of the assembly session after the requisite sacrifices had been made on its lawns to help the CM retain power.

But the real issue for the BJP should be the kind of signals its “Gatekeeper to the South” is sending by elevating witchcraft to the level of statecraft, by making it a part of the political and public discourse with such disdain for public taste?

Does a chief minister who has weathered concerted efforts by his colleagues, by his rivals, by his own party high command, and the now the governor to unseat him, really believe that he minister be ejected by a slice of lime, a piece of coconut and a little vermillion?

Does he really expect the people to believe this balderdash, this junk?

Even a lobotomy will not save Yeddy!!

  2. anil Says:

Shame shame shame yeddy. It is really shameful having you as CM of karnataka. I really feel sad that i voted for you.

    This is more disgusting.

    http://ibnlive.in.com/news/karnataka-cm-asked-to-sleep-in-the-nude/142095-3.html

I think you should immediately step down…before u sleep nude.

  3. varun Says:

But going nude is a great idea I think. No spirits, evil or otherwise, can stay around to witness that scene.

  4. Gaby Says:

Wow what a circus of fools.

  5. Vikram Hegde Says:

Good now his scandals will be “laid bare” :P

  6. Balu Says:

I would like to ask this family priest of Yeddy -Bhanuprakash Sharma. “What are the homas and yagnas the state has to hold to get rid of evils like yeddys and Reddys”? I think people like Bhanuprakash are the most dangerous evils of the society.
    Ridiculous, astrocious….!!!
It’s a shame on our people who elected this man (Yeddy) who still believes in yanthras and thanthras.

If the head of the state is so superstitious, just imagine the kind of society we live in.
I am ashamed of calling myself as kannadiga.

It’s time for the all the intelectuals, media journalists and writers to raise awareness amongst people that we require better governance lead by modern thinking & smart individuals.

  7. Alladi Jayasri Says:

What a silly, dangerous man. Maata mantra? Takes one to know one. He’s ready to believe in witchcraft, but not in his own karma. didn’t he say the other day that Kumaraswamy is in the doghouse today because he didn’t “give money” to temples. He is still Chief Minister because he “gave money to ” to temples. When does his sahasrachandika homa, hudreds of devotees, the common man who probably voted for him, will be cheated of their own appointment with God. Doesn’t he think their curses cancel out the dubious benefits his homa or yajna?

  8. Subhash Says:

When did Yeddi become the ‘the ’2G Scam’-tained CM’ ?

  9. Nastika Says:

Its a shame that BJP is putting up with this man. BJP must immediately chuck this imbecile out and get the next man ASAP.

  10. Thyampanna Shettru Says:

Yeddy may be having proof that Gowda is indulged in witchcraft to get rid of him. Gowda, with all his money and influence is capable of hiring the best of’ ‘Mantravadis’ from Kerala/TamilNadu/Andhra where witchcraft is integral part of temple priests and vedic scholars. As an antidote, he is trying to counter the effects . I don’t think it is right to ridicule him.

  11. Nastika Says:

    > Its a shame that BJP is putting up with this man. BJP must immediately
    > chuck this imbecile out and get the next man ASAP.

Rather a woman. BJP can score some brownie points by getting Shobha Karandlaje as CM. As Food & Civil Supplies minister, at least she is doing something …

  13. shankar Says:

Yeddy has every right to believe in god / witchcraft / surya namaskar / homa . Ridiculing yeddy for corruption taint is one thing, but ridiculing his beliefs , however silly it may sound to the secular liberals here is not done.

Media & its “secular Liberal” followers have no issues if a politicians goes on haj or gives a chadar to ajmer darga or to velankanni..but if yeddy does a homa , their sky will fall down.. try ridiculing a muslim for going on haj or for bringing cans of zamzam water to cure all their ills.. A hindus belief is a soft target..if you are really propogating rationality, can we see some ridicule against other beliefs as well?

  14. harsha Says:

Yeddi should not make these statements in public about black magic threat. Also, whenever he visits a temple in TN or Kerala and then announce crores of aid from Karnataka Govt, I get more irritated. I strongly condem that action since he is using the public money for his personal reasons.
On the other side, I feel that even the media is going extra mile to make sure he looks like a fool. This is the typical attitude of the pro-Congress media machinery to defame BJP politicians and divert attention of public.
Every politician have their own set of astrologers and hindu priests who call the shots @ time of crisis.

  15. karihaida Says:

On the bright side, Mr Bhanuprakash Sharma has advised the CM to visit temples in KA only and not the ones in KL or TN..

  16. Hanumae G Says:

    Ben Ali, Mubarak…….is Yeddi next?
Or is he waiting to get lynched by a mob?

The least he can do is to spend his own ill-gotten wealth on various homa’s, poojas and visits to political mutts, instead of using the sate helicopter and treasury to fund all his beliefs.

  17. Dhumavati Dasa Says:

It is the power of the mind and consciousness. The so called rationalists do not have all the answers. Their Cartesian mechanistic world view has made them blind to contra evidence.
However Yeddy should learn to be more discreet and play the politically correct card. Most politicians, businessmen and media folks believe in all this. I even know a Muslim minister of Bangalore who gets some homa done by one of the udupi matas. Even many American businessmen including the non-indian techno entrepreneurs believe in psychics and other such phenomena although in a different cultural setting. Most of these politicians and businessmen are highly successful. These pragmatic people are not fools to believe and do practices that does not work. And no harm in all these homas, yajnas and havans if done through your private money. But what is private money of politicians – their salaries, that’s a separate debate altogether.

  18. Pseudo Pseudo Says:

    Shankar,

It’s really not necessary to defend a fellow Hindu merely because he is a Hindu. In that case we will have to support Umesh Reddy too. He apparently thought raping and killing women is his path for salvation. That was his belief.

However you raise a valid point. Why public money is spent for religious purposes in this so called secular country? Why should a CM or a PM heli-hop and donate crores of rupees from state treasury?

I have no problem with their myriad beliefs which they can very well keep. But don’t keep them at the expense of the public.

My request to Yeddy would be to start spending his own money for his travel and donations to various religious establishments. He has earned in hundreds of crores via governance or lack of it. Also it would be wise and nice for him to keep his counsel about things such as witchcraft to himself.

  19. shankar Says:

pseudo pseudo, is doing pujas, homas , havanas or taking a dip in river with folded hands a crime in India ? That too a crime similar to one of serial rapist umesh reddy ? Hope you were not serious with your comparison.

In that case What will you compare haj to ? Mass rape done by millions?

Yeddy can believe in any god , homa whatever. That is his right.

But we can insist he should use his resources to follow his beliefs. , without ridiculing his beliefs.( as you can see in alladi jayashris comment “dubious” benefits of homa ) nobody is forcing jayashri to conduct homa. Similarly if some one lese does it , you cant stop him or ridicule him for his beliefs.

  20. DailyBread Says:

    AGENDA ALERT>>>>

    >It’s really not necessary to defend a fellow Hindu merely because he is a Hindu. In that case we will have to support Umesh Reddy too.

  21. sunil Says:

Yesterday Eshwarappa was defending yeddy. BJP is full of clowns, except few like Suresh kumar and shobha. It is high time that BJP remove the CM and replace him with a competent person.

  22. Mahima Says:

God only can save us from this man. This unscrupulous CM will go to any lengths to stick on to power. All the 2-1/2 years of his CM giri, he has been looting or indulging in vamachara to stay in the seat. A few months back, Vamachara near Vidhana Soudha and some gates were locked, Guess who could have done that????

  23. Pseudo Pseudo Says:

    Dailybread,

I am pleased to encounter you as the only agenda free (though caps lock happy) contributor on this blog. Am I right in that assumption or you only believe in Agenda of Saffron Jhanda?

Do you render similar yeoman service when agenda of much more palatable type (to you) appear or you just perk up only when it doesn’t add up to your worldview?

    ***

    Shankar,

    >>Hope you were not serious with your comparison.

No, I was not. I just picked up a name that hogged today’s local news. But I hope you get what I tried to say – that our support for fellow Hindus should no become unconditional merely because they happen to be Hindus irrespective of what they do. That’s ‘Ummah’ mentality of the Hindu kind.

    >>But we can insist he should use his resources to follow his beliefs. without ridiculing his beliefs. Similarly if some one lese does it , you cant stop him or ridicule him for his beliefs.

No arguments on that. In fact that’s what I wrote in my previous post.

  24. Sharma Says:

In India’s history, no other CM or ‘Thief Minister’ in any state of India, irrespective of party, has ever donated such obscene amounts of Govt money to various mutts and temples, conducted so many ‘pujas’, ‘homas’ and ‘havanas’, flown to so many temples in chartered flights or the state Govt Helicopter, gifted so many elephants, sacrificed so many innocent animals including donkeys, and in the process enriched so many astrologers and religious heads!

Makes one wonder if his personal Thantri’s and Jyotisha’s predicted something that will result in the state loosing a few more crore’s towards performing a host of protective poojas and rituals to ward off ‘evil spells’

Perhaps Yeddi is having nightmares of witchcraft after watching live TV, tyrants like Ben Ali and Mubarak vanish into history.

While the ruthless corruption and shameless nepotisms of Yeddi, his sons, cronies in his cabinet and party is well-documented and now proven to all Kannadigas, it is indeed strange that the Cong-I has only been showing crocodile tears (compared to the JD-S), the executive (Center and CBI included) and judicial machinery (including Lokayukta) are sadly, mute spectators.

With scams of huge magnitude becoming common place among selfish politicians of all parties and total corruption the absolute norm in India, the day is not far away when people will lose all patience, forget abut PIL and other means of elusive justice and finally resort to a uprising, perhaps the 2nd Indian revolution.

  25. jagirdar Says:

This guy must go, mata mantra or whatever. It is a shame that Karnataka that boasts of science and technology focused industries should tolerate a chief minister like him. It is high time for BJP to realize its mistake and throw him out or people may throw out BJP too given a chance.

  26. Rastrakoota Says:

I think his trusted astrologer is the key. He probably has been telling this horrendously crude CM to loote all he can while he is at the helm (and let a few clonies as well for “adjust maadkoli” reasons). if he faces hicupps in the loot fest then do as he says….donate state’s cows, elephants ityadi along with parting the loot by way of donations(in cash) to temples n mutts. And sleep nude as well!!! Holy cow!

  27. Shree Saamanya Says:

If Shobha was indeed competent and influential, how come her saner counsel( if it were ) did not prevail upon Yeddy? Does it reflect state of relationship? NOM.

  28. Justfine Says:

    @Dhumavati Dasa,

It’s getting old; “white west is doing something, so it must be correct”. Everything white ain’t everything right. So shed it.

  29. Balu Says:

To guys who are supporting Yeddy’s beliefs.

I just don’t understand how much education they have recieved and what level of society they belong to.
Becoming a fanatic hindu just because others are fanatics is again the quality of yeddi’s followers. Remember what Yeddy said with regards to his land scam. “Previous CMs also denotified so what if I do” I want to ask Yeddy one question. Previous CMs ate “poo” will you eat it? You can’t defend your theft by saying others are also stealing. If these simple logics and moral values can’t be understood, I just wonder how come these people call themselves as leaders.

“Some of the famous people and buisness men also believe in vamachaara”. I have not come across any body being famous leaders and ‘responsible leaders’ making statements like Yeddy. If you can achieve good and evil things through magic, poojas and vamachara, there is no need for suicide bombers. no need for any science, no need for any wars. and no need for any modern technologies at all.
It’s a tactic played by handful of people to make money, to create irrational fears amongst people and also to misguide people away from progress to future. These type of beliefs are usually held by backward communities of backward countries like India and Africa.

Yeddy is well aware of what he is talking. I think he is using this statement to gain sympathy from large group of people who are uneducated ( excludes literates) and believe in ancient system. He may get critisized by few people like us. But his agenda will be met as long as poor, backward, uneducated, hippocratic, crucked, blunted and senseless people remain our society. I can say with conviction that people who are supporting Yeddy are cheap minded, come from similar backgrounds and caste biased.
    God save this country!!!

  30. Bikram Says:

i dont know about about politics of the state et but yeah NO thank you dont want him revelaing any more than what he has already .. thank god he has the vest on yuckkkkkkkkkkkk

  31. Bengalooru Haida Says:

    @ Dhumavati Dasa,

I am completely convinced about the potency of homa, yagna, ityadi. Thank God we have these weapons of mass delusion, otherwise where would mankind be?

Is it possible to have a homa to get rid of this scourge called Yeddy? Who can do it and how much would it cost? This is a serious issue and we should do it in the interest of our state and larger good of the people. Please suggest.

Also we need to keep in mind that Yeddy+Reddy may organise a bigger homa/yagna to counter our homa. Can that be pre-empted by vamachara or some such stuff? Otherwise we will merely end up in one-upmanship and you know Yeddy can beat us hollow in that.

  32. Vitlan Potli Says:

gawd the alernates that we have; hudco/niira ananth kumar, jds kummi, some lackey if the congress comes- siddu or some other flunkey siddu though fairly clean -doubt if he will be given a free reign will be inconsequential. People we are a doomed and acursed lot. Anyway which way you look at it we lose. what solutions do we have folks?

  33. kaangeya Says:

In India’s history, no other CM or ‘Thief Minister’ in any state of India, irrespective of party, has ever donated such obscene amounts of Govt money to various mutts and temples, conducted so many ‘pujas’, ‘homas’ and ‘havanas’, flown to so many temples in chartered flights or the state Govt Helicopter, gifted so many elephants, sacrificed so many innocent animals including donkeys, and in the process enriched so many astrologers and religious heads!

That must be because previous CMs everywhere have generally looted Hindu mandirs, which alone are managed by the government. In Karnataka in the rule of the “humble farmer” and the Congress thugs, the revenue of Hindu mandirs was diverted to the maintenance of masjids and churches. Right inside Bangalore we have the Church of South India that occupies leasehold land belonging to the Army, on which it has constructed a commercial building making money hand over fist from rentals. The churches everywhere in India, the Catholic Diocese of Bombay which rents out the Eucharistic Congress building in Colaba or the Church of S. India in Chennai, as well as every masjid in India that rents out vast commercial properties, are making truckloads of loot. But churumuris “progressive” mavens all of a sudden suffer an attack of anterograde amnesia when confronted by these facts. Listen guys, after a decade of maladministration we have for the first time a progressive CM who is sprucing up Bangalore and the rest of the state. If the BJP loses power next time and the Congress returns, investment will flee the state and head to the new sunrise beacon of India – Gujarat – which at its current rate threatens to eclipse Maharashtra (Mundra port will overtake Bombay Port and JNPT in a couple of years) and begin to capture a 25% share of india’s GDP.

As you guys keep whining the Namma Metro is ready to roll. You buddhijeevis should just keep whining and move aside to let the smart rural progressive who wants to work with the likes Shobha, BSY and the state BJP to forge ahead.

  34. the colonel Says:

  35. Nastika Says:

@kaangeya, I agree. There seem to be a competition ‘Who Loots Wins’.

But I thought we were discussing Yeddy’s black magic in this thread.

  36. K.Balasubrahmanyan Says:

  37. DailyBread Says:

    AGENDA ALERT>>>>

    >that our support for fellow Hindus should no become unconditional merely because they happen to be Hindus irrespective of what they do. That’s ‘Ummah’ mentality of the Hindu kind.

I have not seen anyone saying this on this board. FYI, both A Raja & Kalmadi are hindus.

    Lage raho, communalise every discussion.

  38. Karavali Says:

    Kaangeya,

What’s the point of the rant? That it is bad to loot (your word) Hindu mandirs but it’s ok to loot the people?

Tell me frankly, are you a resident of Karnataka? Especially rural hinterland? What are your sources of such grandiose statements ‘move aside to let the smart rural progressive who wants to work with the likes Shobha, BSY and the state BJP to forge ahead.’? Do you really have ears to the ground or just rely on what the right wing chatter has to offer on the web?

So the credit for Bangalore Metro goes to BJP that has been in power for 2.5 years? Good. Please don’t forget to tell them the blame for homeless flood victims who are still waiting for compensation and roof for almost 2.5 years.

  39. Simple Says:

    1. BSY is entitled to his beliefs – but please keep it within your home, no need to advertise your insecurity of losing the chair – what kind of signal will it give to six crore kannadigas? That their CM is not in control of his own life – how can he safeguard the lives of 6 crore people?

    2. Why is my money being spent on donating crores to temples of all kinds?

    3. More than his beliefs, it reflects on BSY’s administration skills. If he has clues/hints/ that somebody is trying to kill, him, why does he not file an FIR and get those people behind bars? Why moan and whine in public? You are the CM for god’s sake, you have the power to act – so please act.

    4. BJP low command will tolerate even this – because they are scared of the lingayat vote bank – who are completely and solidly backing BSY.

    5. BJP low command Gadkari has said BSY has done immoral acts. So why are they not asking him to step down ?

    6. Therefore, the qualification to be a minister in BJP seems to be you should be a sex freak (like Renuka and hallapa) or neck deep in corruption (like BSY and Reddy).

Look at the difference! Congress sacks and arrests corrupt people, while BJP solidy backs shady elements.

  40. Pseudo Pseudo Says:

    Dailybread,

Oh! Is that true? I didn’t notice when A Raja and Kalmadi joined BJP and this became ‘true’ Hindus. Sorry, my bad. I thought they are still in DMK, Congress respectively and hence they are not being defended.

I take back my words Mr. Agenda buster.

  41. Shrinidhi Hande Says:

shameful… Someone rightly said “Thief Minister”

the only service he is rendering is entertaining us with new initiatives like this…

  42. Bhushan Nigale Says:

Yeddyurappa is India’s Hosni Mubarak. Like Mubarak rooting for his son Gamal as his successor, Mr. Yeddyurappa has tried to secure the political future of his children – one of his many children is a Member of Parliament, and Mr. Yeddyurappa is alleged to have eased the purchase of hundreds of acres of land for his several children. He has faced grave corruption charges, braved internal dissent, and has had to overcome at least two attempts in one year to topple his government. In all these events, his response has been Mubarak-like: I won’t quit. When shamed by a governor sanction for a permission for public prosecution, his response was to back a public Bandh that crippled public life across the state. And recently, he tried to assuage the demands of his opponents by announcing a surprise retirement plan from state politics – a la Mr. Mubarak, who wants to quit by September 2011.

Perhaps we should call Mr. Mubarak the Yeddyurappa of the Arab World.

  43. Gaby Says:

Yeddy’s actions and behaviours are grievous to the body politic of Karnataka. But the fact remains that he is a democratically elected leader and is subject to the wishes of the elctorate. India is a electoral democracy even if it it needs a lot of mending. To compare Yeddy to a tyrant who has ruled fro three decades with no popular mandate is the kind of stupid sentimentality that our middle classes indulge in.

Which Indian leader has ever quit when asked to and name one from Nehru onwards who did not want to warm the seat for his/her progeny?

  44. Simple Says:

Some Democratic leaders start behaving like dictators once they are elected.

They refuse to listen to anything or anybody – including the courts.

  45. Gaby Says:

True like Rajiv Gandhi who compared citizens to the earth that gets thrown up when a great tree – his mother, is uprooted. But even he was thrown out by the electorate in 1989. To compare him or indeed Yeddy, to an unelected dictator is to mock the woes of the Egyptians.

  46. DailyBread Says:

    >Oh! Is that true? I didn’t notice when A Raja and Kalmadi joined BJP and this became ‘true’ Hindus. Sorry, my bad. I thought they are still in DMK, Congress respectively and hence they are not being defended.

Lol, what a tangled web we weave, I did not know there is a “true” and “untrue” hindu based on political beliefs. Try telling this to the most loyal congressmen in Bangalore, Mr. Bhardwaj that he is not a “true” Hindu. Your psuedo theory will get a kick at the right place…

  47. Simple Says:

    Gaby,

The mode of coming to power may be democratic.

What is the use of it, when power has gone to the head which makes you wreck havoc on my state, with the following:

Unbridled corruption. Neck deep in nepotism. Amassing massive wealth. Cutting opposition’s strength. Steamrolling public opinion. Weakening Lok Ayukta. Caring a fig for the courts. Accepting and encouraging sex freaks, rapists, illegal miners in the cabinet.

Even a dictator does all the above – except that his mode of coming to power is different.

Contrast this to what congress has done.

They boot raja. they ask supreme court to monitor the case. They jail raja. They jail his personal secretary. They put to jail his telecom secretary. The PM asks the PAC to grill him. They appoint a single judge commitee who gives a report in double quick time. Why, they are even ready for A JPC now.

They file FIR against Ashok Chavan. They boot Kalmadi out of all posts. There is talk about impending arrest of Kalmadi.

All the above is the sign of healthy democracy. THe ruling party is sensitive to public opinion.

    What does BJP do?

It tolerates, encourages, publicly supports, even their spokespersons shriek and scream in front of Television cameras expressing TOTAL and 100% confidence in their CM’s and ministers who have been under a cloud.

Reddy brothers are given a public pat on the back, even after CEC says they are gulity.
It tolerates Modi who has NOT BEEN given a clean chit by supreme court monitored SIT. In fact the SIT has said modi ‘s adminstration has tampered with evidence, which is a serious charge.
It tolerates Yeddi who has been prosecuted and faces grevious corruption charges.

    That.

That is the difference between Cong and BJP

  48. Pseudo Pseudo Says:

    DailyBread,

It’s not my pseudo theory my friend. Any one who has spent enough time on this blog would have figured out by now about the conspiracy of silence and benign ignorance displayed by you when a guy with saffron garments is caught in the not so flattering spotlight. One would also have noticed the vehemence that you bring in when the dramatis personae wear a different hue.

I admire your gall to call the others pseudo while you carry on with the same trade with enough guile:)

  49. DailyBread Says:

    Psuedo Psuedo,

Carry on with our communal agenda, I wish you the best……

  50. Pseudo Pseudo Says:

    DailyBread,

    >Carry on with our communal agenda, I wish you the best……

Is it a Freudian slip that you mention ‘our’ communal agenda? Thanks but no thanks. I don’t particularly like that agenda. Also I wouldn’t wish you the best in that.

In any case let’s call it quits before Churumuri or other fellow bloggers cry hoarse on this childish charade we seem to indulge in.

  51. twistleton Says:

    @Pseudo Pseudo

It is futile to separate morality from religion. Because of the “dominion which religion exercises over the minds of men”.

The magnitude of Yeddi’s wrong is mitigated to a large extent by communal loyalty. It is easier to find extenuating circumstances for a person belonging to one’s own community. The bonds of community are stronger than the pricks of conscience. It is a primeval instinct of self-preservation – whether it is still relevant or not is another debate.

  52. DailyBread Says:

    @Psuedo,

    >I don’t particularly like that agenda.

All the evidence we have here on Churmuri is to the contrary…….

People who are defending Yeddy’s criminal activities have never said that they will defend him because he is a hindu. It is you who brought in this angle into this discussion and dividing hindus based on their political leanings. How many people have defended Umesh Redyy, why did you bring him as an example, how many Hindu organizations have issued statements in support of Umesh Reddy?, where is the hindu ummaha?. What do you think, is Shankar Singh Vaghela a “true” hindu? how about Narayan Rane, etc. Wait & watch, Yeddy, Reddy, etc. can become untrue hindus in a jiffy for power.

FYI, I have always supported A. Raja’s 2g licensing policy and I have said media is blowing his crime out of proportion, like it is doing today for S band spectrum.

End of discussion from my side, over to you, you can have the last laugh ;-)

  53. Gaby Says:

Blind simple man. You are blind. When will you realise that Congress and the BJP are 2 sides of the same poitical coin. Both are devoid of any vision, philosophy and good leaders.

  54. DailyBread Says:

    >It is futile to separate morality from religion. Because of the “dominion which religion exercises over the minds of men”.

Twistle Sir, are you trying to tell Psuedo that when some people support Yeddy’s shenanigans, their religion asks its practitioners to be immoral. Or are you trying to tell all of us through Psuedo that some religions have more/less morality quotient than other religions.

  55. Jagadish N Says:

    I know Yeddi’s mantra:

    “Om Rupeeyayah namaha”

  56. Simple Says:

    Ms. Gaby

There you go abusing me personally, when you have your arguments have no leg to stand on, collapsing on your own contradictions.

No Madam. BJP and Cong are NOT the same. I am AMAZED how you turn blind to actions of CONGRESS which has PUBLICLY DEMONSTRATED its commitment to ween out corrupt people.

    a) It did not give Congress ticket to Tytler
    b) It did not give Congress ticket to Sajjan Kumar
    c) It sacked Shibu Soren
    d) it did not tie up with Shibu Soren for the lust of power.
    c) It sacked Raja
    f) it sacked tharoor
    g) it sacked natwar singh
    h) it sacked Kalmadi
    i) it sacked Chavan
    j) it arrested Raja
    k) it arrested Raja’s secretary
    l) it arrested telecom secretary.

    2. BJP opely defies public and media and courts..

it takes no action against bangaru laxman.
it brazenly supports and encourages rapists,
it openly gives tickets to sex freaks.
it repeatedly gives ticket to road rage murders from Punjab who is a famous ex cricketer.
it turns a blind eye to people involved in genocide,
it gives a public pat on the back to people involved in land scams,
it is scared of people involved in mining scams.

That apart, Cong has had the vision to bring in legislations to ensure Right to Education, Right to Jobs, (NREGA is a massive success) Right to Food and Right To Information – each one of which in revolutionary.

Except building a few roads, the nation came to a grinding halt during NDA rule.

    That.

That is the difference between Cong and BJP

  57. Goldstar Says:

    Simple,

You are ignoring way too many facts in your blind devotion to the Gandhi family. Jagdish Tytler, and Sajjan Kumar were given Lok Sabha tickets in 2004; 20 years after the big tree fell and the ground shook.

And it has not sacked Ashok Chavan or Suresh Kalmadi from Congress membership yet !!

And regarding allies and Cong/BJP lust for power, there is one humiliating example for Congress and that is in Tamil Nadu. Did you know (or do you simply ignore these things) that in 2007, when a prominent LTTE leader ( yes, the same banned organisation that killed Rajiv Gandhi, ex-PM of India and husband of the current INC president) was killed, Karunanidhi wrote a poem in praise of the slain leader/terrorist. The TN congress objected and staged walkouts/boycotts of TN assembly. The Congress “high command” in Delhi simply looked away since it was a “valuable alliance” with the DMK. Hail, Madam !!

  58. Pseudo Pseudo Says:

    Dailybread,

    >Twistle Sir, are you trying to tell Psuedo that when some people support Yeddy’s shenanigans, their religion asks its practitioners to be immoral.

Don’t get all that twisted by that statement DailyB:) You need to rephrase that statement. It (Hinduism) is a great religion with many many immoral practitioners. Somewhat like G B Shaw said about another religion..

And that’s precisely the point I was trying to make before our debate turned petty.

  59. DailyBread Says:

    Psuedo,

One last time I need to come back and have my say, after this field is wide open for you to indulge in sophistry….

    >It (Hinduism) is a great religion with many many immoral practitioners…. And that’s precisely the point I was trying to make before our debate turned petty.

And that point(agenda) when deciphered reads like this : Hindus influenced/inspired by their religion are indulging in immoral activities and other Hindus again influenced/inspired by their religion are defending these activities.

I knew precisely where you were heading. Why do you think I sent out agenda alerts.

Above all this was a dead give away >He apparently thought raping and killing women is his path for salvation. That was his belief.

Carry on, wish you peace, happiness & salvation!!

  60. Mysore Peshva Says:

    *Goldstar*

Simple sir is like Dharmaraya when the subject is Gandhi family… he can see no flaw in the Gandhis.

    That.

That is the difference between you and Simple sir. :P

  61. Simple Says:

    Gold Star

Yes of course sajjan and tytler were given tickets in 2004. yes of course chavan and kalamadi are not sacked from congress.

But at least they have demonstrated that they are willing to act against tainted people, by taking firm steps of sacking people and jailing them and denying tickets in 2009, and refusing to tie up with tainted JMM.

BJP does not do even that. Its lust for power is so deep that it even sacrificed Ram temple to sit for six years in power.
it compromised on dynastic politics, (BSY’s son is an MP)
it compromised on single family rule ( a la Shiv Sena),
It compromised on everything it believed in to sup with 24 different parties with divergent viewpoints – and here you are talking about one DMK writing a poem. Talking about poems, the then PM of NDA was good at writing poems too – that was his single biggest contribution.

    >>Its lust for power is so deep that it even sacrificed Ram temple to sit for six years in power.>>

The first prime minister of India, sacrificed a prime part of this country for the lust for power and he happens to be a KKaangressi…the effect of which is being felt even today after 2 generations…what to talk about Ram Temple ;)

  64. Mysore Peshva Says:

    *Gaby*

Here’s an example of current Congress high command’s commitment to freedom of speech.

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Gehlot-asks-Rajasthan-minister-to-quit-over-his-remarks-on-President-Patil/articleshow/7460045.cms

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot is asked to fire a minister for SAYING something (regardless of the truth of falsity of what was said) because what the minister said was perceived to show the Congress high command in poor light.

It seems that Congress high command means mooh mein democracy aur bagal mein autocracy!

  65. K.Balasubrahmanyan Says:

Dear simple, when will the congressmen be punished/when will the money misappropriated by them recovered. What about Sukhram Ha ha Bala

  66. Pseudo Pseudo Says:

    DailyBread,

I think you need to seriously shed this ‘agenda’ glasses and the perceived persecution complex.

Let me make it very clear here that I have no agenda against any religion least of all about my religion ie Hinduism. But that doesn’t mean I will defend any Hindu just for the sake of h/she being a Hindu. How one can equate both? I haven’t understood so far. Many have come and many have gone in the last few millenia but yet the Hindu religion has survived. We really don’t need to defend the wrong-doers in the name of religion.

    >And that point(agenda) when deciphered reads like this : Hindus influenced/inspired by their religion are indulging in immoral activities and other Hindus again influenced/inspired by their religion are defending these activities.

Did I say that?! Did I mean it as you seem to do my mind-reading? Answer to both is a plain and honest NO.

Please understand my point. I have never said the immoral people have taken inspiration or influenced by Hinduism. But I would emphatically say many of them are taking refuge behind that. And many more are defending them merely because they are our co-religionists. Is that the way of defending Dharma? If so then I will have to really re-learn all that I have understood about Hinduism.

You keep harping back to my comments on Umesh Reddy. You may please go back and check the thread and my next reply to Shankar. I had made it clear to him that I was not serious in equating Umesh Reddy and Yeddy’s case. It was a provocative statement but certainly not an ‘agenda’ driven statement as you seem to discern in everyone that doesn’t conform to your views.

You would do well to get out of the dreamy world fueled by conspiracy theories.

  67. Simple Says:

    Mysore Peshava

It is a free world. Media has been going hammer and tongs against Congress for the past six months -they have all the freedom to rake up muck and write crap about Congress – and there has NOT BEEN a single witchhunt against media – as opposed to what BJP did do Tehelka.

BJP hounded Tehelka for years , it was a grevious assault on the freedom of press.

Mounaprasad -..Lust for power made BJP sit in the chair – without doing a fig for Kashmir or Kasmhiri pundits – because at that time, BJP was under the mercy of Farooq Abdullah’s party – which was supporting NDA

BJP made sure that Advani stepped down merely because he spoke about Jinnah. Jaswanth Singh was thrown out because he defied BJP high command. So did Uma Bharti jee. So did Kalyan Singh.

That is the freedom of speech in BJP level.

  68. Gaby Says:

    Mysore Peshwa,
Why are you telling me this? Also are you calling me a star?

One thing I can say is is this- people like Simple will gloss over this Ameen Khan- Ashok Gehlot bit. But you can never say. His bhakthi might have evolved to the extent of defending even these inanities of his favourite party !

  69. Nastika Says:

    @Simple & @DailyBread
    I admire your loyalties !

But the fact is both camps are filled with enough muck so that they can fling at each other (and forever).

  70. DailyBread Says:

    Nastika Sir,

Excuse me Sir, you don’t know about my loyalty. I am the biggest supporter of politicians (not political parties) who can increase the prosperity levels in this country. Without looking at the religion of the boat, a rising tide lifts all boats. Rest all is bunkum……

I am not a dreamy eyed ideologue, I have voted for candidates belonging to 2 different parties & an Independent in last 3 elections.

I admire Simple Sir, he never tries (unless he is provoked) to drag religion into discussions.

Last thing, I know my Dawkins very well.

  71. Simple Says:

I am not a blind Gandhi fan as suggested by Ms. Gaby and Mysore Peshava, I have condemned int he strongest possible words The Emergency Era, the dictatorial regime of Indira Gandhi, the Sikh riots of 84 and a hundred other things.

    ***

Gaby is as usual wrong. She says my alleged bhakti to gandhi family will not allow me to comment on Gehlot controversies.

I want to ask Gaby to show me a single self respecting party which allows its members to shoot their mouth off against their leadership and yet manage to stay in the party.

Was Uma Bharati allowed to stay?

    Kalyan Singh?

    Madan Lal Khurana?

    jaswant Singh?

    Amar Singh?

    Jaya prada?

  72. DailyBread Says:

    Simple,

    Off topic…

This is the slippery slope I was talking about : http://bit.ly/fPWOto

Q’s attorney is a brilliant lawyer and I don’t know why he did not see this coming.

  73. Deepak Says:

@Simple – In today’s ‘scamy’ conditions, the Congress spokesmen themselves fear coming to TV channels to support their party. In such a situation, your spirited defence of the Congress is admirable. Hats off to your loyalty to the party.

  74. twistleton Says:

    @Daily

I said neither of those things. All I said is that (any) religion is no guarantee for good behaviour.

Personal beliefs apart, Yeddi owes more to his position than sounding like a village witch-doctor. If the head of state runs and hides in the skirts of his religious mentors and indulges in an orgy of rituals then he is ratifying the mentality that one need not be held responsible for deliberate wrongs.

A much better defence would have been to face the accusations head on and prove them wrong through legal recourse. That would have had the invaluable perk of validating the letter of the law in the eyes of the people. And also become a potent weapon against one’s enemies in the future.

You can blame bad luck only so much.

Missing the wood for the trees you are. Do you purposely misunderstand the import of my words?

As to the party which can “rise the prosperity levels of our country”, none such exists.

    @Nastika – good one.

  75. Simple Says:

Only a Congress member can be loyal. I am not a member hence I can openly criticize Congress for delayed action against Raja, for misusing governors, for not arresting Kalmadi, for not sacking aged members in the cabinet, for naming every scheme after Rajeev and Indira.

Since I am am a dispassionate, objective political observor,Ican only point out how Congress is better than BJP.

There is a foolish misconception that I am loyal to Congress. How can i be loyal and openly criticize Congress?

What gets my goat, is the refusal of the Cheddi fan club on Churumuri to criticize BJP.
