Welcome to Kempe Gowda international airport?

In the simmering caste cauldron that is Karnataka, a nice dollop of masala has been added by the reported decision of the Union civil aviation ministry to name the Bangalore international airport at Devanahalli after Kempe Gowda, the purported “founder” of the city of baked beans in the 16th century.

Coming as the confirmation does from the mouth of the Union external affairs minister, S.M. Krishna, and apparently on the Congress leader’s recommendation, all the requisite signals will be received by all concerned. The civil aviation ministry decision, however, awaits the approval of the Union cabinet.

Is the decision to name the airport after Kempe Gowda, who was born near Yelahanka, the right one? Should it have been named after Tipu Sultan, who was born in Devanahalli? Or some other worthy—like the 12th century Basavanna or the 20th century visionary, Sir M. Vivesvaraya?

Should it have stayed as BIAL since it is neither in Bangalore nor very international? Or should it have just been named after Rajiv Gandhi to erase all confusion?

  1. Mysore Peshva Says:

My vote would be for Sir M. Vivesvaraya.

  2. asha Says:

Not reading too much into the caste angle of this issue either Kempegowda or Sir MV International airport is just fine. None of the big hoteliers or industries want anything to do with local culture or personalities when it comes to naming things. You have Maurya Sheraton, Taj Coramandel, Chola Sheraton but only a Taj Residency in Bangalore. I think decisions of naming structures/buildings in Bangalore rests in the hands of outsiders, hence this attitude of naming buildings in Bangalore with generic names. Even after Bangalore was officially named Bengaluru, very few ELM outlets use that. However, look at them falling over each other to use Chennai,Mumbai,Kolkota and Thiruvananthapuram.

  3. the colonel Says:

    Bangalore Airport will do.

  4. ShridharaSwamy Says:

Sir M.V. is the architect of Modern Karnataka. Tipu has Baggage. For a change name it after Kittur Chennamma. As it would likely happen ________ Gandhi Airport.

  5. chidu22 Says:

Was there a unanimity behind this proposal or was it a one man, Mr Krishna’s way to appease his community?. In my opinion it should be named after people who’s contribution to the state as a whole has made a difference. To that effect it will be Shri Basavanna, Sir M Vishweshvaraiah, Dr S Nijalingappa.

  6. Deepak Says:

Looks like a joint effort between SMK and DVS :)

  7. murthy Says:

Kempe Gowda deserved more than a bus stand or anybody other than a “Gandhi”. Hope there is more oppertunities in future for us to cherish the great contribution of other karanataka leader.
    Wish list:
For Sri Basavanna lets build a world class airport in north Karnataka..? For Sir M.Vishweshvaraiah build a freeway connecting north karanataka to south karnataka..build a world class musuem in banglaore palace grounds name it after Wodeyars.?

  8. Yella Ok Says:

Kempegowda will do just well. When did he become the “purported” founder, one does not know. And Indian media is more casteist than Indian people or politicians, looks like

And nice try to get some angry comments by brining in Rajiv Gandhi intothe picture. I checked – there was no tongue-in-cheek in the tags list:-)

  9. Shetty Says:

It is now a confirmed fact that caste considerations are paramount in our state, especially when it comes to any political decision. While Krishna has been a total flop at the center, he is desperate to retain some influence in his own community, in the midst of competition from other equally crooked, corrupt politicians. The pathetic External Affairs minister and Gandhi family’s flunky must restrict himself to his son-in-law V G Siddhartha’s Cafe Coffee day and shady Rs 850 crores of profit per annum.

What the Blr airport badly needs is not a new name but facilities that can at least translate it to be called as a International Airport. Committees after committees have recommended so many reports to convert the ugly ‘Industrial shed’ to a passenger friendly, efficient airport with a high speed rail network to the city, but sadly our leaders are busy in caste-driven silly decisions, resort politics, selfish wealth accumulation and of course corruption of the highest level imaginable.

The current senile 70MM smile, Gowda CM has also turned out to be another disaster, what with complete neglect of the roads and basic infrastructure in his own home town and district, not to speak of a shockingly, un-motorable highway from Blr to Mangalore.

  10. ghataprabha Says:

I hope that BIAL should NOT be representative of Karnataka as a whole, but rather of the culture of bangalore and surrounding districts. Although it is the capital of the state, let bangalore have its own identity. outside of offices that particularly relate to state government administration, bangalore is just another city in India and hence the airport belongs to the people who will use it, not especially to the people of the state. Yes, the state government would have helped arrange the finances for the project, but at the end of the day the airport has been built because bangalore is a massive city and not because it is the capital of a state.
It would not make sense to name our airport in belgaum after kempe gowda or tipu sultan or kuvempu, then why even consider Basaveshwara or some other for BIAL. As a north Karnataka person i’d like to see great things happen on my turf rather than have them happen for me in bangalore by proxy.
Personally, I feel tipu would make a great choice for three reasons:
1 he was an early adopter of technology, ballistics in particular
2 he was regent of a state that was an immediate predecessor of the Mysore princely state and was remarkable by the standards of his time
    3 he was from devanahalli

There is a decent case for Kempe Gowda however i feel he is highly overrated as a historical figure. its great to remember one’s city fathers, but the supposed foresight and planning he is credited with can be attributed to hundreds of his contemporaries. karnataka is strewn with more imposing fortifications of forgotten chieftains.

  11. Gokulam 3rd Stage Says:

    1. Walchand Hirachand International Airport, Bengaluru

    2. Mirza Ismail International Airport, Bengaluru

    3. Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar International Airport, Bengaluru

  12. NannaMaga Says:

Only in backward societies like ours do we resort to naming everything after some “great” political leader, some of who are still alive, and changing them every time we need to appease a new vote bank for the next election. This slave mentality where we glorify living and dead politicians is the reason we are in this muck today.

  13. Amith Belur (@amithbn) Says:

As long as the airport code doesn’t change, it is of no significance whatsoever.

  14. the colonel Says:

    narain, naryan (whatever)murthy??????/

  15. Brahmanyan Says:

Naming of International Airports after personalities should stop. The name “Bangalore International Airport” would have been meaningful . How ever KG Airport is far better than naming after Nehru-Gandhi family names.

  16. Goldstar Says:

    Loved the last line !!

I whole-heartedly, unreservedly, unabashedly vote for naming it Rajiv Gandhi Hawai Adda ( so that there is no confusion with Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad ).

  17. sanjeeva Says:

Sir, M.V. International Airport, Bangalore would have sounded better and justified. Kempegowda will soon become K.G. International Airport and people would have wondered who or what is K.G.! Only redeeming factor is it is not named after any political personality.

  18. Vinay Says:

Why the f*** do we start this useless discussion every 12 months?

Just let the damn thing remain Bengaluru international airport. Why the f*** do we have this disgusting culture of renaming stuff?

OK, so name the next infrastructural project after Kempe Gowda. Maybe the next ring road or the next elevated expressway or something. Why keep renaming stuff – do these people have nothing better to do with money?

Even I prefer to use Bangalore while writing and speaking. I have grown up with the name, and am used to it. Just like many people in South Mumbai persist in using “Bombay”.

  19. Doddi Buddi Says:

I support BIAL to be renamed as Kempe Gowda International Airport. We can always name Devanahalli Bus Stand as Hyder Ali Bus Depot or Tipu Sultan Bus Port. Sir MV would not have liked his name to be misused in any manner.

  20. Poli Says:

How about naming it after Kadambas or hoysala … Hoysala International Airport, sounds great isn’t it? Atleast it would make people remember about history of karnataka…. supposedly glorious!

  21. chidu22 Says:

For all those who think Shri Basaveshwara belongs to only North Karnataka cant be serious. A great personality, who was the first to eradicate inequality in every walk of society, had his origin in karnataka, influenced many, not only here but throught out India. It is only fitting to name the international airport of the state after him. He is vishwa manava, it would only help take his message to the entire world. Jagadjyoti Basaveshwara Anterarashtriya Vimana Nildana
For there are many in North Karnataka to name many a institutions other than Shri Basaveshwara.
Besides Kempe Gowda IA will be reduced to KG international airport by kannada haters. I hope this will not be the case, as it seems the name of Kempe Gowda has run away with this one.

  22. dr ramesh Says:

This is what an organized,single-minded , purposeful agitation can achieve. Right from the day the idea of an international airport in Bangalore was conceived, kannadigas have been demanding that the airport be named after the city’s founder father. I would like to congratulate KRV narayana gowda, state and central govts for their Initiatives. At the same time one feels sad for some people who see caste in this. May be hangover of yeddy politics.

  23. virgopal Says:

Sir M.V .International Airport sounds appropriate

  24. Pulikeshi the Last Says:

Devegowda International Airport. Where are you Dr. Ramesh when we need you?

  25. 'mudi'malnad Says:

    M V airport is nice,
but keep it as BIGTANK airport, helps every leader, caste, person
    ” B(asavanna, Bengaluru),I(ndira) G(andhi) T(ippu), A(mbedkar, Anantha Murthy and Kumar), N(arayana Murthy), K(empegowda, Kanaka dasa, Krishna???)

  26. dharmasthala manjunatha Says:

Basically, by this announcement more than Kannadigas our neighbouring states will be more happy.

Kempegowda belonged to Tigala(Agnikula Kshatriya/Vanniyakula Kshatriya) community and his ancestors are from Tamilnadu. Also he wrote a book in Telugu. During his rule, telugu was the administrative language in his very small kingdom.
Currently tigala’s are more famous for there expertise in growing vegetables and maintaining farms.
We can see more Tigala’s around Bangalore region of Karnataka.

Just because of his Surname, vokkaligas / gowdas treats him as there fellow vokkaliga. This is a historical mistake on behalf of Vokkaliga community.
For vokkaligas Kuvempu should be treated as ideal person. Kuvempu is a true kannadiga and belongs to vokkaliga community.

  27. kris Says:

No change. BIAL is just fine.

We should discourage anything to do that is caste-related, even remotely.

  28. Vivek Vijayan Says:

We should definitely have named it after Rajiv Gandhi and all other airports in the country should also have emulated the same. We could have created a world record of sorts by having named all airports with same name.

  29. Doddi Buddi Says:

    Dharmasthala Manjunatha,
Your post is somewhat fanciful. The Wikipedia says thus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kempe_Gowda_I

No disrespect to Tigala community though but I don’t see them carrying the Gowda surname.

  30. Pulikeshi the Last Says:

Would like to see some unbiased person respond to these concerns and questions. “The Gowda” in what follows means “the ruler.’

    1. Is the Bendakalooru becoming Bengaluru theory based on fact, or is it just a fanciful concoction of an idle mind? I am inclined to believe that four centuries ago some enterprising Bengalis landed in Bengaluru by way of avenging the humiliation inflicted on them by the Senas of Karnataka and named the town after themselves, i. e., Bengali+uru> Bengaliyooru> Bengalooru. Perhaps they offered “bengaavalu” to the reigning paaLegaar. It is our duty now to name at least a badavane after Sri Sri Sri URA of Dollars Colony by way of thanking him for rescuing the proper name of the town. “Ananthapuri” sounds good, just like “Churumuri.”

    2. What sources about Kempegowda’s rule are extant? How many inscriptions bear his edicts? How many charithes by his aasthaana vidwans, especially in view of the fact that Modern Kannada was coming into its own when the Gowda ruled?

    3. To what extent did the Gowda foresee the transformation of Bengaluru into a monstrous metropolis? Did his satrapy indeed extend beyond Magadi, Kengeri, Bidadi, and Yelahanka? What minor ruler would not like to see his fief expand? Why has the imported historian in our midst, Sri Ramachandra Guha, not considered it worth his while to weigh in on the topic of the Gowda’s rule?

    4. If the Gowda were preoccupied with the probable out-of-control growth of our Bengalluru, if he spoke Kannada and fiercely loved that language, would he also not have foreseen its relegation to second class status in the days to come?

    5. Why are our feminist writers not enraged by the story that Kemps actually allowed the sacrifice of a daughter-in-law to ensure that a kere somewhere was not condemend to eternal parched emptiness?

    6. In an exerpt aired on You Tube, the Hon’ble Shri Bacchegowda once proudly claimed that he was a descendant of the Gowda. Is it possible to verify this claim by conducting a DNA search? Can that former CM turned Portuguese explorer, Somanahalli Kitta, claim the same distinction as the baby Gowda?

    7. Rulers, if not their subjects, generally prosper when they have intellectually sturdy advisors/diwans, as was evident in the case of Naalvadi K. Wodeyar. Do we have any credible information about the Gowda’s mantris?

    8. Given the fact that the Majestic-K. G. Road nexus has become a thriving den of iniquity in our sinful times, shouldn’t the paalike consider cleaning up the area or renaming the roads and streets in the area to reflect its burgeoning flesh and alcohol trade? It can thus save the sanctity of the Gowda’s name.

    9. To what extent is the rechristening of the airport a last ditch attempt to save the Congress from extinction in Karnataka? Why did we have to beg MMS and perhaps the Doresani to approve the name change?

    10. I honestly believe that the airport should be named after our own living Gowda who led the country and the state into a golden age as PM within a matter of roughly three hundred days. The road to the airport should be graced by his son’s name. As CM, the younger Gowda led the state into even greater glory than his father did by his secular rule in tandem with the BJP. A clear testimonial to his statesmanship is that our Muslim brothers still invite him to their yearly iftaar.

    11. If there is the likelihood of the kilogram (we will for sure end up calling it ‘the KGA”) airport having a satellite airport to land lesser craft, that nildaaNa should be named after our dental doctor.

  31. EmptyMind Says:

Please name this after our beloved messenger of GOD “Narada Muni International Airport”. You cannot see any caste angle, less controversial and more attractive than anyone else. It sounds very innovative as we hindus don’t have temple or any thing after his name as we reduced him to mere laughing stock , it is time to correct this mistake or some sort of blind belief associated with this great sage .

  32. Vinay Says:

    Epic post. :D

But I feel it should remain BIAL. Why rename? Name the next giant infra project after KG.

  33. batta Says:

    I have lot of suggestions:
    1. Vatal Nagaraj International Airport
    2. Narayana Gowdru International Airport
    3. Sonia Gandhi International Airport
    4. Dewegiwda International Airport
    5. Yaddyurappa International Airport
    6. Muniswami International Airport
    7. Mayavathi International Airport
    8. Karunanidhi International Airport
    9. …….. so on

  34. Nastika Says:

KG is better than any RG or IG (after Indira & Rajiv, its time for Rahul to get his name on board). Though Telugu was administrative language in KG’s time, his name might make it to airport since it has the G word.
(Nothing wrong in KG since he has done good to Bangalore).

    What we have now is,
    Kempegowda Airport (KGA, KGIA, KGIAL)
    Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic)

    What next?
    Kempegowda Railway station?

  35. sunil Says:

Kempe Gowda International Airport is the right name and it is a great honour for the man who founded and ruled Bangalore.

  36. Kitapti Says:

This is the bio of Kempe Gowda from wikipedia:

“He had the burning desire to extend his Kingdom to provide a just rule over it and to work for the preservation of Hindu Dharma. He studied in a Gurukula type of school in Aivarukandapura (Aigondapura), a village near Hesaraghatta, for nine years.”

Looks like KG belongs to the RSS-Hindutva side.

  37. Jay Says:

How about B. S. Yeddyurappa International Airport?

  38. rs Says:

  39. dr ramesh Says:

Lets set aside differences and rejoice at the fact that Bangalore airport will be named after a kannadiga , a non politician, and most importantly a NON-IT person. Dirty propoganda has already reached a crescendo that Bangalore is IT and Bangalore survives because of IT, NOW naming BIAL after kempegowda will reinforce the belief that Bangalore belongs to kannadigas. Gurugale lock maadi.

  40. Faldo Says:

We should not over analyze this. BIAL was a suitable name but there is nothing wrong in naming the airport after the founder of the city. Let us accept this and move on.

  41. chetan Says:

    @dharmasthala manjunatha
you are right. Hamsalekha once said kempe gowda was a tamilian. i was confused why would hamsalekha say so, thanks for confirming.

  42. Gaampa Says:

Heathorow airport in London is named after the village Heathrow where the airport is situated. Not named after anyone in UK. Inspire of having a long list of historical & important personalities.
Paris’s Charles de Gaulle CDG is named after France’s illustrious military leader,
New York’s JFK is well known.
O.hare airport in Chicago is in the O’Hare village,
Singapire’s Changi airport is in Changi area. Hence the name.

So, how about Devanahalli airport ??

  43. Anonymous Guy Says:

All you web browsing bomman children can keep up arguing like little kuthanthri narada munis. Real men who make things happen will decide whether the airport they build will be named after Kempe Gowda or someone else.

  44. Vinay Says:

    Dr. Ramesh:

Whether we like it or not, it is true that Bangalore will not be the same without IT. Bangalore is “surviving” in the current state because of IT – not the “pensioners paradise” of the 1980s, but present day Bangalore.

Mind you, I don’t like this myself. This over-dependence on a single industry, and one which depends to a great extent on foreign clients, is not healthy. But at the moment, that is how it is in Bangalore. IT is the “driver” of money supply and growth, and that is the truth. Take away IT, and all the other businesses and industries will collapse. The construction/real estate, hospitality, entertainment and of course, aviation – everything will collapse.

  45. Sanna Kallu Says:

We will rename it Sonia Gandhi international airport, keeping in line with the sycophant mentality to the Nehru family so ingrained in our national culture today.

  46. Prasad Says:

I second EmptyMind, As we have seen in many Movies and TV serials that Narada muni is always flying in clouds hence it is just apt to name a Airport after him. The other option might be Pushpaka Vimana I A so that we can pat ourselves to have visioned a flying chariot when the westren world were still hunting nomads ;)

  47. Dheerendragopal Says:

  48. GowdaFan Says:

What ? its not DeveGowda airport ? not even HDK airport ? what does one need to do to get it named after himself ? Die ? Oh well.. We can replace Kempe with Deve once that happens, and we can also make Hallin Daaktru happy at the same time, but he may also be sad at the same time.. forget it, there is no way out, just call it Bangalore airport

  49. Kennedy Says:

KG Hospitals, KG Bus Stand, too much of it. As someone has said above, it may be welcome as against a Gandhi or Nehru name.

Also KG is over rated as he was a local leader of a clan and the vokkaligas have none to look up as a leader from their caste (except SMK/DKS or Ambareesh or the ex-PMs family). DVS is always their second choice since he comes from a disciplined DK district and not from the Gowda hinterland.

This naming is purely a caste issue and a consolation price for the vokkaligas since they have lost out to the lingayats.

Sir MV or the Wodeyars would be better as they took Karnataka to a modern era. Or name it as Kannada International Airport.

  50. FirstReality Says:

How about naming it egabrag ytic airport?
Only if half the people were more outraged about state of airport and the city than what name should it have.

I am relieved to see that Dr. Ramesh is sticking to his longstanding ideology. I would, however, dream of a better thing for DG: Emperor of the New Globalized World.

  58. dr ramesh Says:

Pulikeshi, for the first time after many years, state govt has told the supreme court that it has given excess land to NICE. Deve gowda fought almost singlehandedly for this cause. Atlast, truth is coming to light. Two persons who deserve to become president of this country on merit, pranab mukherjee and deve gowda. These two seasoned politicians have seen different facets of Indian politics, its evolution from single party rule to coalition, licence Raj to globalization. Raisina hill deserves better people .

  59. Deepak Says:

@dr ramesh – Even in Gowda’s own dreams he cannot become President. If he somehow becomes President, that will be the ultimate insult to the nation – both the top posts polluted by the unworthy man. And poor Pranabda has nil chance of being President, Sonia will never let him go – though he probably deserves it the most of all the contenders

  60. asha Says:

    Dr. Ramesh,

What exactly qualifies DG to become the president….I am not saying all those who have gotten that post had qualifications….very few in the early years maybe, Babu Rajendra Prasad, S Radhkrishnan, Zakir Hussain, to name a few…after that it was all political appointees who summarily lacked qualifications to be the president of a great country…BTW if only Keni had agreed to bribe DG and his sons, we would not have heard a whimper about NICE irregularities…it was just that DG did not get his share in the loot that made him pursue this case and not any altruistic intentions…

  61. chidu22 Says:

    Dr Ramesh

DG as president, you are not serious?. Am I smelling a caste brotherhood in your suggestion?.If so ,you may say so , nobody will lynch you. A pot can never be a kettle.

  62. dr ramesh Says:

Brahmins and vokkaligas share a very cordial relationship from many centuries, caste brotherhood in that way is true. Being a Brahmin, I have no doubts in my mind that devegowda is one of the best president material and jd s is the best party to govern karnataka. 1996 no one thought a simpleton from haradanahalli will occupy the same position which shastri,Nehru and morarjee had once held with great esteem.

  63. Rao Says:

Look at any truly ‘international Airport’ in the world and they have a high speed railway network to the city centre, not to mention extremely customer-friendly facilities including swift baggage handling, stealth security all over,…even small matters like special toilets for the old and scientifically designed trolley’s..etc..

While we all agree that the Cong-I central ministers from our state are self-obsessed with absolute greed, our own 70 mm faded smile CM Gowda can’t even get basic roads in his own district (Puttur-Vittla) re-asphalted or tackle drought in the north hands-on.

It is most obvious that the BJP will be a total loser in Karnataka for a long time, while its past and current leaders have become most prosperous ..infact billionaires!

Yes, it includes the most controversial trader national Prez while the Tumkur mutt runs the pseudo show with no shame or an iota of respect to the state or society.

Anyway, look at all the posts (except a very few)….

We Kannadigas are so easily diverted with a naming issue of a universally accepted sub-standard airport. When will we get our priorities right?

  64. Pulikeshi the Last Says:

We don’t hear much from DG these days. Hope he is OK and well enough to know that there are admirers who would like to see him as india”s president. However, his gramapanchayathi level of sophistication will keep him where he is.

Ramesappa is displaying no caste brotherhood here. According to an old post of his, he is a maadhwa brahmin. Why he worships DG so is the mystery of the millennium. But to give him his due credit, he is invariably polite in what he says. He never calls anybody names.

  65. Deepak Says:

@dr ramesh : DG a simpleton, hmm!! Its Prathiba Patil who is a simpleton – who tried to grab one piece of land and got caught; whereas DG has been swallowing land by the hectares from years and never got caught. You decide who is the simpleton and who is ‘Der Alte’ :)

  66. dr ramesh Says:

Pulikeshi, thanks for those kind words. Not just deve gowda,HDk, I also have great admiration for pranab mukherjee, jairam ramesh and. Suresh Kumar.after getting to know about financial assets of karnataka Congress and bjp leaders, devegowda and hdk appear saints in chor bazaar.

Dear Dr. Ramesh, either you have knocked yourself out with some Novocain-like drug or laughing gas and you don’t care: what about HDK acting tough with the Lokayukta police official when he tried to serve him summons? What about Dirty Devegowda threatening officials after his son Balakrishna was found having massed 500X fortune when compared to his reported income? In spite of this you keep up a Gobblesian attitude to facts and misdeeds of HDK and family? So the only conclusion is you don’t want to hear or see the inconvenient truths, right?

  73. dr ramesh Says:

DB, judicial proceedings are taking place in full swing, Hdk is undergoing judicial and public scrutiny, shortly truth will emerge, if hdk comes out clean, his charisma will grow, if found guilty, law will reign him, simple. We are not gadkari types to say not illegal but immoral, law is supreme. Same applies to yeddy, Koda, raja etc. But what is wrong is, targetting. DG and HDK because of their pro rural, pro farmer agenda. DB ,even narendra modi is undergoing trial, but. Cheddi followers hail him as paramathma, see the difference.

  74. ANIL KUMAR .C Says:

Kuvempu is a true kannadiga and belongs to vokkaliga community.

the kempe-gowda/gounder is belongs to pallava dynasty.his ancestors are from kanchipuram*(tamil nadu) not only his ancestor – along with so many people are came to Bangalore. before his entry most of pallava `s army people was stayed in and around Bangalore AS a representative of pallava`s and Chola`s and with intention of establish the pallavas, cholas government. hence we can see the vahnikula kshatriya community people are still in bangalore , they are celebrating karaga festival since 800 years still it is going on . the family war are common in vahni kula kshatriya /Agni kula kshatriya/shambu kula kshatriya. hence they are ruled in the name of Cholan dynasty , Pallavan dynasty, Cheran Dynasty and gangaru ,and chalukyaru in karnataka.now most of familes are running their vengeance in the name of VAHNI-REDDY AND VAHNI -GOWDA , PADHAYACHI , KURUVAN , KACHIRAYAR, SHANBURAYAR, in karnataka, andrapradesh, tamil nadu,

we can see the evidence that in Bannerughatta national park one hill, it is next to the park, it is stone hill this hill name is VAHNI HILL (BHETTA) .OVER this hill lord chanpakadama swamy and mahalaxmi temple and laxmi-narasimha temple is still alive .

evan today also in kolar, Bangalore districts the people are called to vahni kula kshatriya /Agni kula kshatriya/shambu kula kshatriya community as a * PALLOL-LU * in telugu language. if we called the same in kannada language its pronouncing is *PALLAVARU *.

THE HISTORY CAN NOT BE CHANGE DUE TO THE SOME PEOPLES and their whimsical nature and we have the threat destroy the history from political parties for VOTE -BANK.

  75. Doddi Buddi Says:

    Dr Ramesh,

Please read carefully and then reply; don’t give some bullshit like law will take its course. I have shown you how HDK and Dirty Devegowda were imposing their own laws on police officials. Do you see the difference now? I am not blind to what BJP or other assholes may try with the law. By revealing that you are for HDK and Devegowda because of their pro-farmer stance you come across as a first-rate idiot. Farmers problems are real and they cannot be solved by stances. Revanna conveniently enjoyed the Nandini Dairy pelf for some time in his own pro-farmer style. Can you comprehend that?

  76. Guruprasad Kaushik Says:

The name of ‘KempeGowda’ itself suggests that he is a Kannadiga. ‘Kempu’ in Kannada means ‘Red’ and “Gowda” belongs to the farming coomunity of Karnataka. Gowdas were farmers during peace time & Warriors during expansion of empires and battles. It is said that KempeGowda had a fair complexion with Red cheeks when he was a baby.

His ancestors were military chieftains of Ganga dynasty who conquered Kongu region of Tamilnadu. After the decline of Hoysala dynasty, Kempegowda’s ancestors had to face lot of problems and pressures posed by the feudal kings of Chola dynasty. Hence, they migrated to Bangalore(Bengaluru) during 12th or 13th century AD.

Kempegowda built many lakes in Bangalore which acted as a Water supply which was sufficient enough till late 1980s. Today the KRS(KrishnaRaja Sagar) dam built by Sir M. Vishveswarayya is supplying Cauvery Water to Bangalore and supporting it’s growth.

If Kempegowda had not built lakes, would Bangalore had achived today’s growth? No way………

  77. dr ramesh Says:

DB , a man, a force called hiremath single handedly fought against illegal mining empire, u r seeing the results today, such is the strength of judicial activism in India, now take a deep breath and think, how can DG,HDK and revanna,if they have done no good to the people, attain heights which they have, and. If they are corrupt how is it possible to evade judiciary for so long? Now tell– idiot yaaru?

  78. Doddi Buddi Says:

    Dr. Ramesh,

HDK attained the heights as CM due to BJP’s support. This man who won 55 plus seats became a CM, likewise Devegowda attained the same heights as PM when the lowly clerk of Gandhi family Sitaram Kesri made him quit. Also BJP won the election last time in the state because people were not so much enamored of the ‘pro-farmer stance’ and great deeds by JDS. They won less than 25 seats or so right? So what heights are you talking about? Judicial activism has only hit top-gear now thanks to the teeth given by ironically to Lokayukta by BJP. So wait and watch. Have I answered your question now?

Thanks to well-meaning useful idiots like you HDK and Gowda have evaded the judiciary till now but their day will come, do you agree?

  79. Pulikeshi the Last Says:

    Dr. Ramesh–

You have named the greatest mystery of the last fifty years. Just how has this family avoided the long arm of the law? Collusion among the morally marginal, the police, and the judiciary is not a new thing in our polity, is it?

  80. FirstReality Says:

Dr Ramesh, what did you say again? You can not evade judiciary?
Are you getting these from ketchup bottles on your dining table?

  81. Deepak Says:

Hmm, I suspect dr ramesh is the pseudonym of YSV Datta …he he he

  82. Pulikeshi the Last Says:

That thought has crossed my mind. I also find it interesting that our Dental Dhanwanthari seems to have hired an editor.

  83. dr ramesh Says:

You can abuse me, condemn me, but ,as a democrat cant stop me from expressing my opinion which I feel is right. DB — u r on track now, lets wait for the enquiry to get over, I sincerely hope justice is done, if ur proven right, I would congratulate u, if u r wrong, no problem–there s lot to be Learnt.

  84. Brahma Says:

If it is named after Kempe Gowda the founder of Bengaluru, it is castiest. If it is named after someone other than him from a different caste, then it is fine. Castiests.

  85. Doddi Buddi Says:

Dr Ramesh, It is the democratic rights of others that are being trampled by Gowda & Sons, we are worried about. I am happy to know that I am ‘on track now’ whatever that means in your weird and wonderful World of JDS Universe:) LOL

  86. Pulikeshi the Last Says:

Devegowda’s sons injected violence into legislative politics when they manhandled Ramakrishna Hegde. Much of the disorder we see in the two houses–VS and VP– is in many ways attributable to them. I do not think the older Gowda condemned his offspring’s resorting to fisticuffs with an unprotected man.

DG as our Rashtrapathi is an intriguing thought. He is a wily, ancient politician all right, but what does know about the culture of his state or India? How many languages can he speak fluently? What are his reading habits? Does he know much about the arts? The questions can go on forever.

We shoud be grateful that not everybody is an admirer of the Gowda clan like Dr. Ramesh, the future Minister of Health in HDK’s cabinet and personal dentist to President Devegowda.

  87. Seethi Says:

Lets name the airport A M Singhvi Airport. Period.

  88. anil kumar.c Says:

Kempe gowda/gowndar is belong to pallavan dynasty. he came from kanchi (tamil nadu) he is belong to vahni kula kshatriya community. since more then thousand year vahni kula kshatriya are celebrating bangalore karaga festival in bangalore and bangalore urbun and rural district. blood of king dynasty is only think about the people that`s why kempe gowndar is great and his daughter in law had sacrifice her life for the people.

  89. anil kumar.c Says:

Kempe gowda/gowndar he is not kannadiga . he is a Tamilan and in his time of ruling telugu is administration language . he is belongs to vahni kula kshatriya. not belongs to vakkaliga. actually his name is Kempegownder not Kempegowda . in karnataka govt historical books show that he is kempegownder not kempegowda.
the vahni kula kshatriya community it is solders/army community basically hence they have the system of hierarchies. hierarchies like this
1st person of army is YAJAMANA::- he is whole and sole responsibility of the army (vahni kula kshatriya community)

.2nd person is GOWDA/GOWNDER /GOWNDU:- he is head of his group of army/solders like this somany groups in the community each group carries one head, he is called as GOWDA/GOWNDER/GOWDU /GOWNDU.

3rd person is GANACHARY(GANA + ACHARY) is a priest :- he handling all kind of coustomary work like since
(birth – fighting education- marriage – death) of the person .

4th persons is KUMAR MAKKALU/ KUMAR MAKKANGA. :- they are soliders in the group of army.
It is a group of army in a vahni kula kshatriya community.

now we will discuss on GOWDA/GOWNDER/GOWNDU/GOWDU. THE KEMPEGOWNDER/GOWDA is fall in the 2nd person of hierarchies of the community. in the bangalore now more then 100 gowda`s families in and around of bangalore and bangalore rural districts (nelamangala, anekalu, hosakote, ramanagara, magadi ..etc ..) are staying. the vahni kula kshatriya community spread entire india and srilanka and world. each army group have the chief head gowda/gowndar each heads denote as A CHOLAN , PALLVAN , CHERAN, CHALUKYAN/ CHANLUKYARU,. GAGAN/GANGARU THIGULAN/THIGALARU , TONDAIMAN , KALIGNGARAYAR, SHANMBURAYAR, KURUVAN, PALLIAN, PILLAI , PULIKUTHIYAN etc……hence THE KEMPEGOWDA is one of the head on his group of people, his group came from kanchi (TAMIL NADU) his group is PALLAVAN. hence the KEMPEGOWNDAR IS BELONG TO vahni kula kshatriya commuinty most of vahni kshatriyar are rssiding in and around of bangalore and rural districts
    evidence are follows:
1.300.-400 years old GARADI MANES are in bangalore city.
2.since more then 1000 years old festival “vishva vikyatha BANGALORE KARAGA”
3.the champakadama swamy temple is on vahni hill(vahni betta) in banerugatta national park.
4.most of people are using kannada +tamil mixed language in bangalore .

  90. chetan Says:

hamsalekha has said kempegowda is a tamilian, so chapter closed. hamsalekha is well read and knows his history.

  91. Doddi Buddi Says:

Nice! Still it is going to be KempeGowda Airport:) LOL

  92. navollasa Says:

Kuvempu, Sir MV or why not Kings like Pulakeshi , Nrupatunga etc – these actually bring kannada factor from other parts of karnataka to bengaluru which is missing these days.

why Kempegowda for bus, train and now airport ?

  93. Jayaraj Says:

whatevr it may b it should b named after him……KEMPE GOWDA rocks…………….

  94. Nityanand Says:

Why not Yeddy International Airport ?? (Currently, Yeddy seems to be the only powerful person in Karnataka. He almost pulled down the Govt, last week end.)

  95. dinesh Says:

Anil Kumar is correct. All chola kings are Vanniar caste people. present day Chola king Mannar mannan who lives in chidambaram can vouch this.

  96. surya prakash Says:

north indians do not want a dravida’s name. they invaded our dravidian civilization and drove us to south and now they are not letting us to stay in this south peacefully.
now they are trying to say that dravidian civilization itself was not there and ….
now they want to poke their nose in our affairs.
