“After some initial reluctance, the Centre has accepted the Supreme Court collegium’s recommendation that Karnataka Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran be transferred to the Sikkim high court….
“The Sikkim high court is not a bustling hive of judicial activity but how can a person considered unfit to preside over the Karnataka judiciary be regarded suitable to head any other high court? The transfer order contains the disturbing implication that the dignity of the Sikkim high court is less important than that of Karnataka for the collegium, which is exactly what angered the bar association and fuelled protests in the hill State when the proposal was mooted this April.”

This is seriously WTF!
Apparently there is enough and then more evidence to hound this guy. Otherwise he wouldn’t have been eased out of K’taka HC in the first place. If that’s the case, how is he fit for Sikkim? Because it’s a tiny state and the rumble there can be managed away from media and public? That’s a shame.
He should have been stripped of his judicial robes and sent back to TN where he is alleged to have amassed hundreds of acres of land. On top he should have been sentenced to rigorous work – of tilling all his land (without any other aid or aide) till he reaps what he sowed.

Maybe this is because he is a gowrment brahmana? Not that I have anything against them, but sometimes (because of past atrocities) it is difficult to take the right decision involving them.

Put your righteous indignation in cold storage somewhere in Faridabad Industrial Estate. Where but in an immature democracy like India would a judge, facing corruption charges and under possible impeachment, be transferred to another state as Chief Justice?
Didn’t the Sikkimi high court advocates once already speak with one voice that they did not want a justice under a cloud on their bench?
For whatever it is worth, here is my theory:
The Supreme Court got wind of allegations against Dinakaran when he was on the bench in Chennai and sent him up to Karnataka as Chief Justice. The promotion, among other things, was a declaration that he had done nothing wrong. That conclave of musty headed legals also thought that would have been the end of the affair. It wasn’t. He is going to be kept on the judicial payroll until he is eligible for pension benefits and the charges/allegations against him are dismissed. Then he can do an even better job as a real estate manipulator, with all that time on his hands.
Name one high official of dalit origins who has been disciplined for his extralegal actions anywhere in India. Some of us are old enough to remember that Jagjivan Ram did not pay taxes on his what must have been a considerable income for a full ten years. Indiramma said Babuji just forgot to file his tax returns and that he was a good boy, and made him a member of her cabinet.
The law should be above caste, creed, and every damn thing. Hey Ram.

Let us be honest, northeast India is never treated on par with “mainland” India. I hope, northeast Indians will herald a new era one day. Like the east asian tigers – south korea, taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong– hopefully northeastern people will be the first to develop. Unfortunately that looks unlikely looking at dozens of insurgencies.
Since, north eastern people have racial similarities with Chinese, Koreans etc. hopefully they will be the first to bring us gold medals. Unfortunately, the Indian corruptocracy (it is not a democracy) can bring down any one to lowest qualities and can make a fool out of any one.

Do you know that we have a serious lack of ppl in the justice department? Do you know that there are not enough people qualified enough to be hired on the levels of high courts and supreme courts as justices? Do you know that a lawyer in the SC gets 60000 Rs to show up at the supreme court for just one day(just show up …not argue a case…that is diff fees…this is show up n keep mum)??? Do you know existing justices keep getting extensions past retirement age because the rest of the available pool is as equally tainted or unqualified as the one under scrutiny here?
So basically even in our justice system, i suppose it is a question of who is worse and who is slightly better than the worse?

British used to punish with “kaalapani” and our Supreme court seems to have its own version.
We seriously need reforms of all kinds – Judicial one too..

The simple sentence by Complex comments eloquently on the situation. The Dinakaran case has ceased to interest us. Does anybody remember that Siddharamayya broke a man’s leg by driving a tractor over him near Maisuru at some inaugural function some years ago and wasn’t so much as charged? Devegowda’s goons caused a man to commit suicide because the man had caused a bit of damage to Gowda’s car. Do we hear anything about it? Then there was the death of Yediyurappa’s wife. We are complicit with the criminals amidst us. Our army of briefless lawyers could do a lot to set our justice system straight.
